Hi there,

Re your query about PGS printing blank pages at the end of a print, I've
had this problem since PGS 3.3 with a PS printer. I use an HPLJ 5MP &
with the Mac Laserwriter 8.0 & 8.6 drivers it always does that, although
originally it only happened with 8.6. Using the HP driver it doesn't, but
then I get a number of fonts -usually bold & italic- which will not come
out & it reverts to Courier. I've been putting these queries for about 2
years on the list but it still has not been resolved. Apparently PGS
writes a line in the PS file which causes this problem.
BTW I see you're using 4.x & this is still happening. I've held back on
getting this as 3.4 beta 9 is fairly stable but I have been trying to
find out if the other printing glitches i.e. as above & non-ASCII
characters not printing, have been resolved. Perhaps you can tell me?

Best regards,

Ian Hutch

I think you have to expect little funnies when you use a driver for
an Apple-special printer to drive a mill-run model.

This may be a problem in PageStream's generation of PS code. I set
up some sample text (LoremIpsum) in several "standard" fonts and
output the PostScript file with the 5P-5MP PPD. There were some
strange font callouts in the file, which may confuse the printer
(I don't have a 5P, so can't say for sure). Example:

/PGSHelvetica/Helvetica RE
/PGSHelvetica-BoldOblique/Helvetica-BoldOblique RE
/PGSHelvetica 12 12 0 0 false F
k` 0 0 0 1 CMYK
190 622.413 M (magna) F1
/PGSHelvetica-BoldOblique 12 12 0 0 false F
k` 0 0 0 1 CMYK
226.683 622.413 M ( ) F1
/PGSHelvetica 12 12 0 0 false F
k` 0 0 0 1 CMYK
230.015 622.413 M (aliquam erat volutpat. Ut wisi ) F1

Of course, you could go into the Laserwriter PPD (it's just ASCII
text) and see if you can find the instruction that ejects an
extra page and delete it -- making your own private version of
the PPD. If you compare the PPD's for the 5P and the Laserwriter,
the offending instruction may be revealed.

And if you DO find the offending line, POST IT HERE! <g>

EndPage
showpage
EndTile
%%PageTrailer
EndDocument
%EndDocument: untitled
%%Trailer
end
%%EOF

The problem is that last character after the %%EOF command at the end. It
shouldn't be there. Oytput a page make the F of EOF the last character and
the page should output fine.
