I am currently usning Ubuntu (Xubuntu) Xfce4 gui as Maverick Meerkat
UUbuntu 10.10.

I had to do some pagestream stuff today and in the recent past I had
needed to save files to pdf format and then print them. But today they
printed directly to the HP Laserjet from pagestream. The previous
behavior had been that PageStream thought it had printed but the
printer never was activated. Now even when that happened I could save the
file as a pdf and then immediately print it using a pdf program.

So then in the middle of printing from PageStream I got a paper jam
over on the printer. After I fixed that PageStream would not
print to the printer.

I discovered going into the OS's print manager application that the
printer properties tab listed the printing status as "failed".
The solution was to shut down PageStream and print a test page from
the Printer management application. When PageStream was restarted I was
able to print directly from it.

There are a lot of variables here and I did not take the time to try an
detangle them but a possible cause of this may be that PageStream is not
in two way communication with the Linux print manager.

This is a pretty simple solution.

if you type 127.0.0.1:631 into your browser's address bar, are you taken to the CUPS administrative home page in your machine? there are options for setting up and maintenance of printers there.

That has been my experience with Ubuntu based PgS too.
