Hi Deron and all

Time to give up trying to solve my own problems and ask for help.

Some of you may recall a bit of this background information. The Church I
attend is celebrating its Centenary this year. Last year a planning committee
was formed and because of my background I was volunteered to set up a Book
based (conceptually) on a previous publication for their 75th Anniversary.
It was supposed to have been ready for March 2012 but because research and
gathering of resources (particularly old photos) took far longer than
anticipated that deadline was well and truly passed.
All has been going well (apart from my earlier query about page numbering) and
I was given the go-ahead for the publication. This is where I have come unstuck.
The document has been produced using Amiga Pagestream 4.1.5.6 (under a E-UAE
setup) and to date output has been fine doing imposition of 2 across 1 down to
A4 paper as a postscript file converted to PDF so we can just print out our
own copies as needed. So I thought, no problem I'll just output 2 across 2
down to A3 (as required by the printer).
Using this setup the results are:-
Postscript normal imposition to A5 paper is fine
Postscript 2 across 1 down imposition to A4 paper is fine
Postscript 2 across 2 down imposition to A3 paper produces one spread centred
vertically
Output to bitmap (iff) 2 across 2 down imposition to A3 paper also centred
vertically as above.

Under Pagestream 5.0.5.8 I cannot open the document. Pagestream just crashes.

Because I thought it may have been a problem of using an old version of
Pagestream I went ahead and upgraded one of my Amiga versions to Windows
5.0.5.8 and an old OS9 Mac version to Mac OS X (both of these upgrades to the
Pro version)
This hasn't helped either.
Opening the document in the Mac Pro version I found a few random glyphs
throughout and the flow was slightly different in places but not a major
disaster. It just meant I had to re-proofread and hoped I didn't miss
anything. The important thing was output.
To A5 the pages were offset down and left
2 across 1 down to A4 was "almost" correct ... the spread was offset to the
right ie had a wide margin added to the left.
2 across 2 down to A3 the 1st page seemed Ok but every page thereafter was
shifted to the right and up, ie a big margin to the left and bottom

Just for the record for A5 and A4 I used Lexmark Optra PPD and for A3 I used
Linotronic300v47.1

2 across and 2 down to bitmap produced the proper result, however I think that
would be a compromise to have to use a bitmap. I only did it to see if it
worked layout wise.

As for the Windows version none of the postscript files were usable. Adobe
Reader just said it couldn't open them and Gsview/Ghostscript produced error
windows for each file and ultimately nothing displayed.

So after all that, what am I to do. I need some help badly.

I didn't get to test under Linux as I don't currently have a Linux box up and
running.

I'm not sure, but if you are trying to print 4 x A4 pages onto 1 x A3 page,
it won't fit?

Or, is it 4 x A5 onto 1 x A3? If so, do you have the correct paper size &
format set up in order for the 4 x A5 pages to fit?

I have a genuine A1200 with AmiPGS 4.1.5.6 if you want to send it to me to
try. pm me directly 1st & I'll tell you where to send it.

Font incompatability problems?

Bye for now,

I knew three different ways of proving this result, but unfortunately I
chose a fourth way.

This is it. The A5 pages are portrait and the A3 paper is set to portrait. The
illustration thingy when you set the imposition shows correctly.

I might have to email you direct if that's OK as I'm not sure what you mean
(ie how to) pm you.

Always a possibility but in this case I don't think so. Before I open the
document I set the "System Preferences > Font" to "add" the same fonts (I have
them in a separate folder) for this purpose. So it should be referencing the
same fonts.

Try, just for the sake of it, setting the A3 page horizontally and see what
happens.

Sorry, that's my forum talk ;) pm means Private Message, or, email me
directly ;)

Try the good old Windows failsafe - re-install PGS ;) Can't hurt!

Aha! That's it!

I routinely print postcards 2 x 2 on letter paper. When I first set it up I thought I had to make the illustration thingy show correctly, but then the output came out wrong. When I finally got the output to come out correctly, the illustration thingy was wrong. Once a month I open the previous month's document, modify it for the current month and verify the imposition setup. The illustration thingy is wrong, but the output is what I want.

Unfortunately, that's the theory, which worked for you but here the output
test failed.
But thanks for trying to help.
