Uhm the linux info is this seems outdated.

Linux per user preferences are stored in /usr/{username}/.PageStream5/

should be /home/{username}/.Pagestream5/

Maybe!
I do not have or use Linux. So, I made my comment, safely, about
Windows. Smile
For what I read here, there are different versions for Linux
(Ubuntu,...), or maybe better layers (Gnome, KDE). So, is this
Linux-version depended?

I can edit my comment, and so you can add a comment. But what we cannot
change is the original text. That is for Deron.
Let's wait what Deron is thinking/doing.

Not really outdated. Just wrong. It has always been /home ! (unless you
happen to run it as root!)

I see Tim has already made a comment in the documentation. Thanks Tim!

as far as i know the linux versions are all the same pagestream.

i install mine in my home directory, not in the system wide directories
under / (which is called 'root') so it is specific to me at that
directory.

the main differences in different flavors of linux are generally the
paths in which some of the libraries are kept.

the current linuces are mostly divided between the red hat/fedora
influenced ones and the debian influenced ones. ubuntu, xubutu, etc, mint
are part of the debian branch.

it is my understanding and experience that the different gui front ends
are not as significant (except for how many cycles of the cpu they use
for visual effects) because even if
you are using gnome you can still install kde applications - most modern
linuces point to a repository where if you download an application it
comes with all the dependent library files and you no longer have to
to the "look for dependencies, compile, make install sequence.

Saw this old post... and couldn't help responding.

Pagestream is not behaving on ANY of three computers it is installed on! Two towers (one at home, one at work) with XP Pro installed) and one laptop with Windows 7 installed. The machine I would like to use it most on... the one at home... it is totally unusable. The Laptop, it will work most of the time, but too often starts up with the workscreen in the wrong place (at bottom or bottom right) and shows only the top bar of the window. I can make it show up, but moving the window, but that is a pain. And, yes, I have moved it in place and saved the window position, but it doesn't make any difference.

The machine at home, this has been an ongoing problem that has only been corrected by reinstalling Windows... this will be the third time. PageStream works right for a while, then screws up the same way a month or three down the road... and gets steadily worse. One machine, in the teacher's workroom, seems to always work right... and 20 or so teachers use the machine regularly... so all kinds of programs are installed and used daily.

If I didn't have so many files in PageStream form, so I kind of need PageStream working.... sigh!

I've used the program on Amiga, Mac or Windows steadily since about 1987 or 8, and know the program fairly well, but this ongoing issue is killing me!...

I guess it is time to reinstall XP Pro on my home machine. Sigh!

This is THE way to solve your problem.

And, what do you do to keep that problem. Meaning: I haven't seen this
in years. And I use PGS daily (almost) on Windows 7 (see below!).
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Coincidentally, this just happened to me (again) on one of my Windoze 7
machines. It's happened so many times, that I now keep an extra copy of
pagestream.ini on a separate partition on that computer.

It also takes a full reboot of the computer after changing to a good copy of
pagestream.ini.
