After a total reinstall of Windows 7, I finally kinda got PageStream to work. Drove me nuts for a while... however, starting today, AFTER I was able to access most files, suddenly when I try to load previous files... and I get the message to the effect, "Can't load because I can't find the IFFCTX filter". When I check, the file IS in the PageStream/Filters folder. What do I do to let the program see it? I didn't really change anything, why did it choose to not be able to see that folder?

Anyway, all help is greatly appreciated!

I have two files in my Softlogik/Filters folder named IFFCTXT.rsc and
IFFTXT.tfl but no file named IFFCTX. Are you sure of what you've said?

Hi Gil,

I think you've messed up with installing PGS. Seeing what trouble you had.

I do not know what you did. But you better delete the content of your
current PGS-folder.
Then extract PageStream5.0.5.8.zip again in a folder. Leave it there, or
copy the content into the folder you want it to be. That folder can be
anywhere on your harddisks!
I don't recommend it to be in the C:\Program Files or C:, but it can be
in there also (just more problems with rights).

If you didn't delete the content in 'C:\Users\User
Name\AppData\Roaming\PageStream5' your PGS should be working as normal!
Just by double clicking on the PageStream5.exe icon. You can install a
shortcut on the workbench or taskbar form Windows 7.

If that didn't work: delete the content from PageStream5.ini in
C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\PageStream5 (and see my comment at
http://www.pagestream.org/?action=Documents&id=82.

Good luck!

Theo - I have PGS working on Windows 7 - 64 bits, and had it working on
Windows 7 - 32 bits!

Already did delete the folder, rebooted and extracted PageStream from the file from the PageStream page (just in case the one I had on file was corrupted somehow). Still get the same message. Still says the filter is missing, even though I can go in and see it is there).

Sigh!

have you tried starting pagestream from the command prompt? there should be more information output during startup process. This might give a better clue as to what is really happening.

Did you delete the content from PageStream5.ini in C:\Users\User

Mmm, just tried it. It does not give any clue.
Although I have a working PGS. Smile

For anyone to see/follow:

I have my PGS in E:\PageStream folder.

So I opened the command prompt:

After the initial prompt: C:\User\User Name, I typed E:
Like:
C:\User\User Name> E:

Then made my folder PageStream the current directory (cd):
E:\>cd PageStream
(Could be quicker, I know)

Then I run PGS:
E:\PageStream>PageStream5.exe

And PGS started!

Theo

I am sure it was a Windows problem... most PCs that have problems are caused by a Windows problem, right?...  BUT, I just booted up Pagestream after a couple of months of not using it because the program could NOT find the appropriate filter... and now, lo and behold, the (censored) thing bloody well worked!  Now it is loading things like there never was a problem!!!  Someone mentioned they had a similar thing happen.

Anyway, Pagestream is once again working for me.

For the record, I HAD tried loading a couple of times since last I posted the problem, and it was always a no-go... but, for whatever reason it seems to be working these last few days.

HOWEVER, I cannot properly edit a major file I have... a pretty big one.  It is a songbook I have been mucking with for the last 20 years, and I decided that since I can load it again, I really should colourize the chords on the sheets.

Unfortunately, it will does NOT give me the option of chosing anything but Black, and White.

I could upload the file... pretty big, about 1.2 megs... and someone could look at it and see if they can Edit the bugger.  (Anyone want a copy, they are welcome to it as well!)  I've used Pagestream for ages, am relatively ok with dealing with its foibles, but no luck with this globally filling the fonts by changing the characteristics of the files.  I have done so for hundreds and hundreds (literally!) of songs, and can change the chords on each individual page in the file, but I can't get Pagestream to do a whole thing at once using the global editor (by Editing that font description... not sure of the proper name for it.)

Not sure where I would upload the file to, so if you know, let me know.  If you can help, or want a copy, send me a note at gknutson@uniserve.com asking for it, and I will send it on.  Let me know you are on this forum.  I recognize most of the names of the long term users.

FYI: That problem has always been resolved by a reboot of the computer
as far as I know. I'm guessing that something keeps a file lock on the
filter and prevents PageStream from opening it at some point. Most
likely PageStream itself, but not positive.

The colors for a new document are loaded from the default color styles.
Once a document is created, those colors are stored with the document.
If when you created this document initially, you did not have default
color styles, then none would have been loaded into the new document. Or
if you deleted them at some point.

You can "append" the color styles back in, or just create your own new
ones in the document.

So as Deron pointed put: start a new document. Draw something on it, copy it, and place it in your music-document. And lo and behold, you have colors again.
Delete that drawing and you can add colors again.

Thanks for the response.

I don't recall deleting any colour information... maybe in a fit of madness, which I forgot. :)

I will try to create new ones, but I kinda tried it already, but it would not "take".  Will try again.

Oh, Lord!!!!  Something else!!!   Now I get this message when I try to start up Pagestream.....
.... not sure if this will allow me to attach a picture, but will try.

If this does not work, I will try to embed a picture in my Thunderbird email program and see if that works.

I have NEVER gotten Pagestream to run on my 64bit Win10 since one of
MS's updates 8-/. I have tried every remedy mention on this M/L with no
joy <sigh>. NOW, Win10 Pagestream works great when I run it from Linux
using WINE. I can even print. Go figure.

Hmmmm.... and I have Windows 10 - 64bit.....

Do you get the same message.... not sure if the screen shot showing the message showed up here... I'll check.

...guess I will have to try and post it from my other email address and see if I am luckier with that thing....

Unsure if this might help; I've been tearing my hair out for the past
few weeks over a piece of unrelated satellite network software not
working correctly on a windows 7 box. Following hours of conference
calls between software vendors and support folks in America, Israel, New
Zealand and myself in Antarctica, I eventually discovered the software
would only work as expected when run in administrator mode, despite the
vendors saying that this was not required. Maybe worth a try with PGS
5?

I've only ever used PageStream 4 with my real Amiga and WinUAE, which I
use frequently. Love it.

Cheers,
Anthony.

If this reply is for me, there is no message. I click launch, get a
reaction for a two seconds, then nothing 8-/. Doesn't matter if I
rename the .ini file, or where I try to launch it from, it behaves the
same in all cases. The environment is HP Z600, 2 Xeon 6 core - 12
logical processors, 24GB RAM. As I stated previously, x64 Windows 10
Pro, latest updates. TIA
