Deron,

Hi. I have Pagestream 5.0.5.8 Pro for Windows and am running Windows 7
64 bit, and I have a recurrent inability to open .PGS files. I have
repeatedly solved the problem by deleting the Pagestream installation
and user settings and reinstalling, only to have it recur shortly
afterward. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

--Bruce Duncan

have you started pagestream from the command line, and looked at the error output? (if any)
This might give us a better idea of what is happening, or not happening with pgs on your system,
copy and paste the output in the cli window here so we can have a look.

So Bruce,

this should look like this, when there is no problem at all, in the
command prompt:

> Microsoft Windows [version 6.1.7601]
> Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights restricted.
>
> C:\Users\UserName>G:\PageStream\PageStream5.exe
>
> C:\Users\UserName>

The UserName is what you are using, and my PGS is at the G:-harddisk.

Theo - at the bottom of this email you can see what I am using (similar)

The fact that you can fix the problem by deleting everything and then
re-installing, leads me to think there is something wrong with your
installation.

Most likely, it is to do with ypur preference settings.

To prove thatpoint, next time you have a problem, just delete the settings
file (do you have more than 1 file on your system?Do a search).

Then, if you had a problem which goes away for a short whilewhen deleting
those settings, then there is nothing wrong with PGS. It is your settings
file.

Have you installed PGS in diffeent places on your computer? Check to see
where the settings file is, and that your current version of PGS is
pointing to it correctly.

Bye for now,

Nice thought though (more than one PageStream5.ini on your system). But
I cannot think why this could occur (I don't mean that this could occur).

Every PGS 5 makes just one folder (Windows 7):
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\PageStream5 where PageStream5.ini
exists. Even if you have a hundred PGS 5 laying around your harddisk
(PGS 4 saves it in another place). That's the beauty of this system (and
THE problem if something is going wrong: just deleting PageStream5.ini
solves this).
You can have many PageStream5.ini in that folder with different names
(like: PageStream5Old.ini, PageStream51.ini), and are ignored by PGS.

I was hoping that by explaining, new thought should arise, but no.

(BTW: I did try to change TechReport.py so that it saves the report
anywhere else, but nothing occurs. Assuming it does not save it because
of the Windows rights).
