Deron,

When do we see a working version?
I am waiting now for a half year, and want to use your program, but I am back to
for a long time to Pages.

It just don't start!

I'm sure Deron wants to resolve the issue, but it is hard when it can't be replicated. PgS works just fine for me in OS X 10.8.2 (which is a blessing because I'm back to using it more again, the 64-bit linux version still crashes on copy/paste operations).

Not that I think I have any answers, but its been a while since the topic was discussed -- you say "It just don't start" -- exactly what does that mean?

Do you get an application crash dialog? If so, have you sent Deron the crash log?

Does the app icon in the doc bounce for a while, then stop without anything ever opening?

Have you tried removing the PgS prefs? (rename ~/Library/Application Support/PageStream5 and then run)

If you run from the terminal are there any messages? (open Terminal and run "/Applications/PageStream.app/Contents/MacOS/PageStream5Pro" assuming PgS is in the Applications folder)

Have you tried right clicking/control-clicking on PgS and selecting 'Open' from the popup menu?

What is the md5 sum of the executable and libraries? E.g.,

md5 -q /Applications/PageStream.app/Contents/MacOS/PageStream5Pro
0394072c8f5627a5f3faf2cf9815028a

(perhaps better for a quick overall comparison would be to zip your PgS app (right/control click, select compress) and do an md5sum of that.

Thanks Tim,

I am a normal user so don't ask me about terminal, checksum ect.

When i double click on the program it bounce one time shortly in the doc (very short)
No crash dialog
Right clicking, and choose open has the same result

I deleted the prefs in the folder you have written but the prefs are not returning back after trying to start the program

I have downloaded the program several times but same result.

Interesting. I remembered that being a long standing bug on linux (and certainly one I encountered recently on trying to use PgS on linux). I'd look into it more, but I've gone over to the dark side and primarily work on OS X anymore.

Hi Tim,
we discussed exctly this problem and I told Deron on October 4th 2012
that I just had to copy libSoftLogicApp.dylib from the 5.0.5.8 version
to the 5.0.5.9 Frameworks folder and PGS starts.

Afterwards I got a kind of debug version but there was no helpfull
output to the debug log.

I'm also waiting for a version on MacOS X which simply works. Even with
my described workaround the Copy&Paste issue persists.

I just use PGS for private stuff so it doesn't bothers me that hard. If
I had to use it professionally I couldn't afford to depend on a program
which doesn't get fixed for months.

Looking forward to the next version...

Ingo

And further, I asked another user with the same problem to do just as
you had done. It did not fix the problem for him.

Yes, since SoftLogikApp is where the fix was for this problem, running
the old version would give you the old bug.

I tried now version 5.0.5.8, but I could not even import a .jpg graphic in this version.

Because of missing prefs it asked my activation code which I did and the program started up fine. And it opened my old documents and I could work with it, only i could not import a graphic. Started with a blank document and could not import also this .jpg,
But it seems that it is particular jpg other pics like the demo ilus graphic I could import (and other jpg's, the problem jpg was a screenshot from Apple's website about FCP-X)

Ok I moved this version to another folder and downloading version 5.0.5.9 and placing it in my programs, again it did not start.

Hi Deron,

Any idea how to fix this? If you need a tester, feel free to send me debug/beta versions...

Me again,

Today I gave PGS 5.0.5.9 another try on MacOS X 10.9.1 an now it loads
but fails to open files. Also recent files could not be opened. It's
been over a year that v5.0.5.9 was released and we still have not
working version on MacOS X as in 5.0.5.8 copy&paste doesn't work.

Still no helpfull debug information. Before the font stuff starts there
are only these lines:

initapprsrc name:de theme:<NULL>
InitScripting #1
InitScripting #2
InitScripting #3 i:0 libnameRazzython
InitScripting #5 (Python 1013) failed!
InitScripting #3 i:1 libname:libpython2.8.dylib

InitScripting #3 i:9 libname:libpython2.0.dylib

So is there still hope for a bug fixed version?

Ingo

This is, unfortunately, a known problem on 10.9. Strangely enough the previous version works (without the bug fixes in 5.0.5.9 of course).

I’ve reported it to Deron and he’s looking into it, but apparently the changes from 5.0.5.8 to 5.0.5.9 should have had the opposite effect (5.0.5.9 should be more compatible than 5.0.5.Cool. And that’s no good because obvious bugs are easier to find and fix.

I’m still hoping for a fixed version because I recently checked out the competition and, for what I do, PgS is simply better. And annoyingly enough, Quark has bugs on OS X. Not as bad as the problems in 5.0.5.8 or 5.0.5.9, but pretty bad anyway. I tried to report them but their site refuses to accept the bug reports. At least Deron acknowledged the report…

Hi Tim,

Well, on 10.8.x PGS 5.0.5.9 didn't even start. "Deron's looking into it"
doesn't sound that promising to me as v5.0.5.9 has been released about
one year ago as a beta version.

Bye,

Ingo
