Just wanted to drop you a note and let you know I am _way_ behind on my
emails, but I will get to them in the next week. If not, please just ask
again!

Just got home, and I'm trying to get all of my source code changes for
PageStream off my laptop and moved to the various computers for
compiling. The new versions that should be coming in a week or so are:
Mac, Windows, Linux and MorphOS. Another stab at an Amiga 68k version
will be following.

The hold up now is that I have moved everything to a centralized source
code server with a remote backup, which is a good thing (For example,
finally no longer have to remember which files got updated and make sure
changes on Windows to fix bug xx get copied back to the other computers
etc). So I have to update each of the platforms. Mac and MorphOS are
done, except I have encountered an annoying bug on MorphOS (and possibly
other Amiga variants since it has to do with Samba file system and
ixemul). I also have to push all of my side projects to the server(s),
but at least 99% of PageStream is on the server(s). Just need to put the
translations out there.

I have talked to a couple folks about Bill and Aladdin4d, and once I get
all of this caught up I'll try and write up a response. Airing publicly
a private matter is not my style, but enough is enough. Good news is I
have more time for PageStream Smile

This is great news (new versions)!!!

I can't wait. Well, I have to. Smile

Also nice to see that you've got the process more streamlined (less
hassle) and more secured.

Thanks Deron,

Theo

Hi Deron,

Great to get an update on PageStream's current situation from you.

A MorphOS PageStream - that'd be interesting, as I can't get the 68k version
to run properly on my registered MorphOS Mac Mini - would I be able to
trade-up, one of my 68k PageStream packages to convert to MorphOS version,
once you've got the bug you know about fixed?

A 68k version is what I'm waiting for really, though a more reliable Win
32bit version would also be good.

I'd consider the Mac version but I see it's only Intel architecture
supported, but if it was PPC also then I'd consider it, and seeing as you've
done a MorphOS port, then surely this wouldn't be too difficult to modify.
Would you consider this a feasible option?

I always thought the PDF.filter was an excellent method of interpreting a
PDF in PGS4, and wondered if there would be any likelihood of updating the
PDF.filter for those of us who still use the 68k 4.1.5.6 versions and find
it doesn't 'cut the mustard' with current PDFs versions.

I'd understand if it's too much work to adapt the PDF.filter from the code
you have incorporated in the later versions of PageStream, but if it was
possible it would be very useful.

Thanks for all your efforts over the years, and maybe now we can all look
forward to a more stable set of PageStream versions.

Hope to hear back from you soon,

Neil Pearson

A 68k version to run on Amithlon is what I am hoping for.

that's really good - yes! Smile
hopefully all the platforms can be brought to the same level in the near
future. they are way too far away from each other.

many thanks and regards...

I spoke to Deron (by email) in early Sept 2013 when he said he was working on a MorphOS version
of Pagestream, but others, I am sorry to have to say weren't that optimistic the project would
ever get completed.

However, I really hope that it does, as Pagestream is a great program, but version 5.x.x.x,
in its current version, does have a few/lot of bugs in it that need fixing before I feel it could be
called a mature/stable version, for any of the platforms.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed, however foolish that might seem, but Deron has given us
some really good software, and I am going to hold him to his word - whatever other people say.

Regards,

Neil

A few problems?  I've never gotten any version of it to run at all!  A fair amount of money for a version that doesn't work and has no support.

Deron,

Good to know. Ever since I installed VER 5.0.5.9 Pro (MAC), I have had
problems opening PGS. After I installed Mountain Lion OS, I have been able
to open PGS, but only by going to Finder, clicking on Pagestream,
ShowPackageContents, Contents, MacOS and Pagestream5Pro, after which a
"Terminal" window opens, and than I can click on my Pagestream icon, and
PGS opens. It is a tedious process, so hopefully the new version will have
this problem corrected.
