OK, I'm finally faced with making the move to win-8.  I've seen a bit of it and don't like it but have no choice.  Any tips for installing Pagestream Pro?

Hi Bill,

I haven't got a clue. Still busy with Windows 7, and not planning to take the plunge for Windows 8 (if I don't have to).

I happen to know that Windows 8.1 has the Start Button again. The Start Menu is not there, yet, But supposed to be in 8.2:

I also read today that Windows 7 will be available for some more time:

(Sorry about the sometimes terrible translations from Google  :-) . Like 'Meanwhile, even Windows 8.1 off.', when they mean: 'Meanwhile, Windows 8.1 is released.')

To answer a bit more to the point: just place PGS anywhere on the harddisk. And start PGS form there.
If it works from there, then try to figure out how you place it anywhere on your desktop screen (I know nothing about Windows 8).
Don't forget to place Python 2. something on your harddisk.

Also keep an eye on this page: http://www.pagestream.org/?action=Documents&id=82

If you have it working, please send in the tips for us.

Good luck!

Theo

I was just forced to go to Windows 8.1 (old computer died.)  PageStream installed exactly the same was it did in Win 7 without any problems.

Sorry to hear you are stuck with Windows 8, my condolences. But I am not aware of any particular or special issue with PageStream on it. I have no personal experience in that regard, I admit, but I believe it to be a matter of extracting and running it. There is the font issue, but that has been the case since Vista if I recall correctly. Specifically, that you must add the system font folder via PgS font configuration — they automatic inclusion of system fonts does not work for whatever reason.

Just tried it myself. Just extract the zip to someplace. Right clicking it gives you the option to put it on your startscreen with all the other tiles for easy acces. On first start the smartscreen of windows 8 kicks in, trying to block pagestream because it is unknown. Just click more information on the smart thingy, and select run anyway or something similar (my win 8.1 is in dutch), and after that it runs fine. Be sure to include the system font path when you first run pagestream. Haven’t found any problems yet. So, not really tips at all, just extract i tand run it.
