Hello,

I was trying to make a drawing last night and I failedSad

You see, the idea that I am trying to portray is the following:

I am showing a drawing of a basin for a water treatment system that has
3-4 layers of different sizes sand/gravel and rocks in it.

I want to have it upside down trapezoid - the top is longer than the bottom.

I want to use a different fill for each layer of sand/gravel/rock
(I could use 3 trapezoids stack on one another and fill each with a
different motif?)

My idea that I could not get to work was:

make a rectangle (made up on 3 rectangle stacks on one another)

I wanted to make a triangle with a right angle - but the triangle on the
models of shapes to choose from did not seem to allow for right angles
I would make it a white fill and white lines - make a copy of it and
mirror it - put one on each side of the rectangle I made above. This
would allow for a bassin with it looking like it has an embankment
(like an upside down trapezoid)

Am I missing something? Making it too complicated? Or, just missing a
trick or two that would make my life easier?

Thanks for your ideas.

Joseph

ps. If someone wants, I can send them a quick hand made drawing of what
I am trying to do!

Joseph
I created the attached in about 5 minutes with PAINT. Saved it as a jpeg
and sucked it in to PS.
Is this what you were thinking?

That sounds like a reasonable idea — it is what I thought when reading your description.

The polygon shapes in PageStream are regular where each side is the same length and all angles are equal. So no right triangles with the polygon tool, but it is easy to draw one. If you want a 45-45-90 degree triangle use the pen tool and click between three points on a grid — essentially do a square omitting one corner.

Okay, that seems overly complicated. If what you want is a trapezoid then just draw one? Use the pen tool and draw the four corners.

Hi Jospeh,

you need to make some trapezoids, each for every fill and one for the
exterior.

You cannot make a trapezoid from an rectangular, at least not what the
Box Tool from PGS.
What you need to do, is use the Pen Tool. Make sure the last line stops
at the very first: it connects (or whatever PGS names this).
Now you can fill each trapezoid with the Fill.

At the moment I see more answers.
Hope somebody got this right for you. Smile

Hello all

I want to thank you all for your ideas.

The paint program does not work for me, as I no NOTHING about panting/drawing programs.  PageSTream is as far as I get.  Photoshop/GIMP are good only for resizing, adjusting colors and cropping.  Thats it for me:(

I did "draw" a trapezoid.  But, I used single lines, and made it, not the pen tool.

Man, it was easy!

Thanks

Joseph

I’ll soon have a video for how to do this sort of thing in PgS uploaded tohttp://pagestream.ylansi.net. No audio and quickly done.

One thing to watch out for when using the transform tool is to make sure you don’t go off page. What PgS effectively does is duplicate then move, and if it duplicates an object on the pasteboard things do not go well. So one object going onto the pasteboard isn’t an issue, after that things go poorly fast. Best thing in such a case is to select all, deselect what’s on the page, then delete.

If you want to be able to fill the trapezoid, it needs to be a single path instead of 4 lines who's corners coincide at the intended paths 4 corners.

Drawing a single path is very easy. To do so with the pen tool, select it from the toolbox and then click on the 4 corners, and then click again on the 1st point to auto terminate the shape. Now select the object tool and you can fill the shape. You can reshape the trapezoid using the second half of the next method.

- OR -

Draw a rectangle with the rectangle tool. Then select the object tool, and choose Convert to Path from the Path submenu in the Object menu. Then to reshape this new rectangle shaped path (or reshape the path drawn with the above first method), select the reshape tool (click and hold on the object tool. A tool menu will popup, just choose the reshape tool that looks like the arrow over a small box). Then click and drag any of the 4 points of the path to create any shape you want. With snap-to-grid turned on you can easily make a nice trapezoid.

Deron,

Thanks for the additional way of making a trapezoid.

Now I can make basic shapes and not need to have to learn to use a drawing program:)

The thing is that I do not do a lot of desktop publishing, but I use it enough to need a program like PS.  Even though it si a bit dated, it still works for me and I learn more every time I use it!

Even though I do not use it too much, I would still be more than willing to pay for the next upgrade:)

Deron,

Even though I do not use it too much, I would still be more than willing to pay for the next upgrade:)

Add me to the list.

I would even pay for a version where all the kinks are ironed out - after that we can look at an upgrade.

Deron,
I'm not sure which version they are talking about but I would like to see a PC upgrade and would pay for it. I wish I could say the Amiga version but my 2 old Amigas (my original A1000 and an A4000) I don't really even know if they still work but keep them around for sentimental reasons I guess (as well as a lot of software which hasn't seen the light of day for a lot of days. I still miss using it and really wish we hadn't gotten screwed out of it by mismanagement (and Gateway - I still blame them for the supposed re-entry and then pullout immediately prior to). I do believe all they wanted was the patents (why not?). Anyway, I have bought several of the Amiga emulators and have never been smart enough (or had enough motivation (and time) to play around with it to figure out how to make it work but try to still keep it up to date for some vicarious reason or another. But I would like to have a real reason to upgrade the PC version at least (it was still the overall best at typesetting I have seen. Never really got around to learning Adobe InDesign even though it came with the Photoshop and Illustrator I have (I usually use CorelDraw X5 (didn't like 6 and haven't tried 7 yet) for my t-shirt business on Amazon. My website went down awhile back and I'm not an expert at anything web-related and am just too damn old to want to learn it now. I've still got plenty of other stuff to occupy my time and am trying to get my kids to learn everything so I can ride off into the sunrise (set-whatever). I just always considered Pagestream the best single program I ever used on the Amiga and would like to get together with an old friend for one last fling I guess. I do wish it had a way to utilize many thousands of fonts efficiently (don't we all?) and I would dearly love for it to display everything in color in high resolution (hell, maybe the new version will but I have had less than stellar results on it and really never give it much time before I have to jump back on Corel for next day's artwork to be either arranged or done. Hope to see a new version soon. Good luck in the meantime and stay well.
