I upgraded the day it was released, and haven't noticed any difference at all. Works just fine.

I also upgraded to Windows 10 and successfully used PageStream5Pro. However, on or about August 27th, I received an update to Windows 10 and have not been able to launch PageStream. All that appears is the Navigator. There is a small icon on the lower left corner of the Navigator which launches PageStream Help. I also re-downloaded PageStream5Pro to replace my previous one, but get the same results. |

That sounds like it might be the “off the screen” window bug. A quick test is to rename your PageStream5.ini file and see if the problem goes away (though that will also remove your registration, etc.). If it works restore the old ini file. I don’t recall off the top of my head which line(s) have to be removed to correct the issue, but it is documented in the list archives.

Yes, I also think it's that Windows bug (again) in PageStream.

Hope I remember to check this email for a response on this....
I have been using PageStream to "Copy/Paste" the lyrics to songs then put in the Chords... for ages... 1986 or 7!!!. This feature has worked fine for nearly a year without a problem. Then, suddenly, this Cut and Paste feature stopped allowing me to do it. I seem to be able to highlight the desired text wherever it is then move over to the new screen where I have PageStream working. (I do have two monitors, and they seem to have worked fine for years!) This worked, that is, until last night. I booted up PageStream as usual, and set up the page as I usually do to format a song. Suddenly I could cut what I wanted on the one screen, but could NOT paste the bugger to the text box as I would normally do. Nothing happened except for a brief flicker of the screen. Nothing would paste. After fritter-farting around for half an hour trying various things, I decided to fire up OpenOffice and see if I could Cut and Paste. Yep, worked just fine. I could Copy the lines I wanted from the screen on my "other" monitor, and then copy it into where I wanted on the other screen running OpenOffice. Last time I had this problem... a couple of years ago... I ended up re-installing Windows 8 as a new install. PageStream worked fine after than. Now, the same problem has cropped up using Windows 10.. Perhaps I inadvertantly hit some key to disable Cut and Paste. No idea if I did, but I'm clutching at straws.... Any suggestions? ...cuz I still can't Cut and Paste. This is what I use PageStream for, mainly. Last time when I had the problem, I used OpenOffice, but want to use PageStream cuz its a whole lot more intuitive to me.. Gil Knutson Chilliwack, BC Canada |

Well Gil,
since it is the second time, I think it is a PageStream bug, not a Windows bug. It has something to do with PageStream5.ini, the textfile that 'remembers' what you do and how you want PGS to behave. Sometimes it collects strange things (because of the acting PGS or Windows, or both). So try a fresh start for PGS. First you have to make some changes on Windows 10 though, before you look for 'PageStream5.ini', show hidden files: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files#show-hidden-files=windows-7 (because otherwise you will not find the 'PageStream5.ini'). Then goto the c-disk and do a search for: PageStream5.ini Maybe it is found at the same place as you can read here: http://www.pagestream.org/?action=Documents&id=82 (read the comment too :-) ). On Windows 7 it is: C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\PageStream5 where is User (not Users!) your access name for Windows. Then rename the PageStream5.ini in to something like PageStream5old.ini (or simply delete it). Now start PGS, and PGS 'thinks' it is fired for the first time. Meaning you have to insert your personal PGS related things (username, product key, whatever, you can also find in the, now, Pagestream5old.ini: under USERREGNUM, USERPASSWORD and/or PRODUCTKEY), things you can find at http://www.pagestream.org/?action=Profile (after you sign in!). I hope this helps, Theo - let us, me, know Op 30-8-2015 om 23:25 schreef GIL KNUTSON gil_knutson@shaw.ca [PageStreamSupport]:

That seems to have fixed the problem. Wish I had known about the .ini file years ago... probably would have fixed the problems I has regarding Copy and Paste the two or three times (actually!) that I have had over the last 10 years. Give yourself a pat on the back and a beer on me! By the way, I have seen your posts on the Pagestream forum here on yahoogroups.com for years. Usually don't read the posts here unless the subject is something I need to know. I might have learned something if I had!!! Really appreciate your suggestion here. Unfortunately, I have upgraded to Windows 10, so the exact place wasn't using the same names, but I managed to find it relatively easy. Windows changes the names and Drawer "trees" every time they rework the files. Sure would make it easier if they did! It's late, so I will reconfigure my Preferences tomorrow. Again... Thanks!!! the rsc file is a “resource” file that has strings of text that PageStream uses in the interface. The .ini file is for the configuration (or ‘initialization’) of PgS when it starts. I have no idea or insight into where this file ends up on Windows.

Thank you both Tim and Leo. You hit the nail straight on. When I renamed the .ini file, the Demo program worked. Unfortunately, I don't have the Product Key. We moved and I can't remember where it might be. All I have is my registration number in my PageStrream website Profile. |

I did as suggested. Found... via a search... the .ini file. Changed it to OLD Rebooted Started PageStream It asked for my code and such... and just worked. I had to set all the preferences again... and am having a problem with the program finding the printer. I'm working on it! (I recall having had to do it way back when, but can remember what. I'll fritter-fart around with the bloody thing and see if I can twist it's tail, so it will give in. I remember it really wasn't that hard, just fiddly..... Gil From: "'Richard E. Richard, I went to the PageStream site ages ago and printed out the information with the Key. Its up on my shelf. Since then, even though I have it on file, it is much easier when I have had to input the Registration Number, for me to just go to the PageStream site (the address is saved as a favourite, and one click away!), log into my account, find the Registration Number, highlight it and copy. it... then start PageStream and Paste the number in the correct field. It eliminates any chance of me entering the number incorrectly manually (being dyslexic at times, I reverse numbers and letters frequently!!). Besides, it is faster for me to do than it took me to type in this note... and I touch type reasonably quickly. Just a suggestion. Richard, have you tried uninstalling and re-installing your printer? Does it have updated drivers for win10? Peter On 9/2/2015 10:01 PM, 'Richard E.

Peter, It is not just a problem with Windows 10... I had it using PageStream with Win XP, and Win 8. And, no, there are not drivers for Win 10... it seems that Microsoft has made it totally possible for Win 10 to use anything in the way of drivers for Vista and up.
