I have just upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Ultimate.
I have about three weeks in Toronto, Canada to sort out
PageSTream before I need to use it again for a weekly task.
When I try to open a recent file, I get the attached.

I have just realised that the attachment did not seem to appear, so:-

Please shutdown and restart your computer. Should be all you need to do
to fix this.

Deron

Thank you.  True.  I have just tried again and it opened as usual.
That makes it sound like some sort of timing problem.

Well, I got back to PageSTream again this afternoon and the same thing happened
so I restarted and it happened again.
Restarting the computer is really rather a pain,
especially if it does not reliably fix the problem.
What is the problem anyway ?

Tue Apr 26, 2016 21:21 (EST)
Just to be sure, as before today, I only "restarted" the computer,
I have just "shutdown" and then switched on the computer
and PageSTream opened documents as usual.
Well, actually having to power off is even worse than "restarting".
What on earth is this problem ?

The other thing I was rather hoping to do while in Canada
was try to find out why I, and I gather some others,
was unable to print to a perfectly boring HP inkjet
under Windows 7 though I could under Windows XP.
Other people seem to have been able to,
as well as under Windows 10, which is my situation now.

Presumably there are some settings somewhere which control this.

It is not the end of the world, as presumably I can
continue to output to PDF and print via Adobe Reader.

But it does seem ridiculous that some of us can and some cannot.

Not sure why, but suddenly when I try to load files I created and saved with PageStream, I get the following error message: Unable to load document because IFF CTXT filter not found.

It gives me the choice of Aborting, or stop trying to load it.

I deleted PageStream and downloaded the Pro version, which I have, but still gives me the same response.

Help!!!  ;)

Hi Gil,

you are the second person in a short time with this problem (OK, read on, I also have this behavior sometimes).
There is no solution, just shut your computer down and restart the computer. PGS should work good now.
Or... (copy from an older mail):

This happens from time to time here also with PGS 5.0.5.8. I have PGS 5.0.5.7 also, and after I close 5.0.5.8 and start 5.0.5.7 I can go on like the, little, problem doesn't excist.
So, I don't restart my computer!

I had the same problem and nothing fixed it including reinstalling the application and deleting the prefs file.  I thought everything was lost but as others have mentioned before, after completely shutting the computer down and restarting it, the problem went away.  I don't know what causes the problem.

Theo and Jim... thanks for the responses.  I will do as you suggest, and let you know what the results are.  In case the total reboot don`t work, I sure hope I can find the Version .7  somewhere on my various hard drives...   :)

Jim and Theo,

Tried as you suggested.  Totally shut down.  Even shut the power off for 5 minutes.

Problem still there. :(

Sent note to Pagestream Support.  Hope they have some suggestion.

As it sits now, Pagestream will NOT load any Pagestrem file.  If I make a new page and save it, I can't open it, cuz I get the same message.

This makes Pagestream totally unusable for me!  After using it since forever... the Amiga back in 1980's... I guess this means the real end, cuz if I can't load anything, it doesn't even make a piss-poor boat anchor!  :(

Calm down Gil,

at all the times PGS doesn't do what you want (opening documents), there is something temporarily wrong with PGS itself maybe combined with the OS (Windows), or the Pagestream5.ini file.

Let's try the last one:
You need to delete or rename PageStream5.ini

From an older mail:

PageStream5.ini can be found if you look at:  http://www.pagestream.org/?action=Documents&id=82
And is found, for Windows 10, at the same place as Windows 7, Vista and 8.

If you can't find PageStream5.ini, you have to tell Windows 10 to show hidden files: http://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/show-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-10.html

Then start PGS again, fill in the things PGS needs (can be found at http://www.pagestream.org/?action=Profile after you logged in).

Let us hear if this works.
