PageStream Version 5.0.5.8 Pro in Windows 8.1 I've been using PageStream for a very long time, and have been very happy with it. I started using it on Atari. I still have an Atari TT30 (that I rarely turn on) running PGS 2.2. Somewhere over the years I was forced to go to a Windows Computer. When the Windows version seemed to be perfected I upgraded to that. I have not always used the latest version, but tend to skip along with versions that seem to have the bugs worked out of them.?? A few years ago I was using 5.0.2.10 Pro, then skipped to 5.0.4.4 Pro. When I tried 5.0.5.8 Pro about 9 years ago I had a problem with running older files. But that got fixed. Now suddenly PageStream has disappeared. When I open PageStream the main PageStream window is not there but the small Navigation window is in the extreme upper left corner of the screen. The first couple of times I tried it the tool bar was in its normal position on the upper left corner of the screen with the Navigation window obscuring the top part of it. Now the tool bar no longer shows up. When I click on any part of the top of the Navigation box to try to move it, it disappears. The buttons on the Navigation box seem to work o.k. I click open in the Nav. window and chose the largest file I have (198MB). I can tell the file is opening by the hard drive indicator, and a font substitution window opens in the top left corner of the screen. I click ok, the window disappears, the hard drive stops running. So, I think PageStream is running, but not where I can see it. ??It's been a while, but I think the problem started after I had moved the layer window a little bit from where it normally opens and then clicked on "remember window positions".?? Also I cannot find a "ini" file in 5.0.5.8. Any
ideas on how to fix it? |

Out of my head, on your c-drive there is a part specially for PageStream. And you should delete Pagestream5.ini (again out of my head). Theo

This is purely from memory but it might help you. Sometimes PageStream for one reason or another decides to place one or more windows outside the bounding box of your memory (maybe ½ meter left of your monitor). It does sound this might be the case based on your description. The usual remedy is to either delete or modify the .ini file - as you mention yourself. The .ini-file (on my mashine) is located at C:\Users\~your-username~\AppData\Roaming\PageStream5 and is called PageStream5.ini Adjust the path accordingly to fit your setup. The .ini is a text-file (which is wonderful! I wish more programs did it this way) and thus you can edit it. I believe this is the lines you want to look at: MAINTOOLBOX SHOW AT 197 73 VERTICAL SMALL EDITPALETTE SHOW AT 225 74 COLLAPSED OFF COLORPALETTE SHOW AT 2 518 SIZE 240 161 COLLAPSED OFF STYLEPALETTE SHOW AT 2 371 SIZE 241 150 COLLAPSED OFF LAYERPALETTE SHOW AT 2 683 SIZE 240 168 COLLAPSED OFF SCRIPTPALETTE SHOW AT 2 73 SIZE 199 305 COLLAPSED OFF PAGEPALETTE HIDE AT 2761 514 SIZE 238 171 COLLAPSED OFF DOCUMENTPALETTE SHOW AT 2 848 SIZE 239 173 COLLAPSED OFF SETWINDOWDEFAULTS AT 234 76 SIZE 1682 1049 SETNAVIGATORDEFAULTS SIZE 344 219 I hope this helps you. Important! Don't delete your .ini unless you have a backup - PageStream will start up in a virgin state and will even ask for your registration number (if I recall correctly) if it can not find the .ini file. Greetins, Philip 'Vargr' Marquard On 01-07-2019 14:07, P. Marquard wrote:

Thank to both of you, I found the "ini" file. I tried changing numbers for the Nav Defaults - nothing changed. Changed numbers for Window Defaults - nothing changed. Deleted "ini" file, started PageStream, put in my name and Product Key. PageStream opened just like it used to. The old 'ini" file was 122 lines, the new file is only 26 lines but I know that will change as I get PageStream set up. Thanks again to both of you.
