Does anyone have PageStream working on an X1000?

Ever since I moved PgS 5058 from my AmigaOne to my SAM460ex, I have been a
very pleased user.

I have now come into possession of an AmigaOne X1000, on which many of my
old programs run faster, if not necessarily better, so I copied PageStream
over. When I try to run it, nothing happens, so far as I can tell (there is
no hard drive activity indicator on the X1000, and I miss it!). So far, I
have neglected to get a report from Snoopy, and I will be sure to do so the
next time I boot the new machine.

Thinking something might be wrong with my thumb drive copy, I tried to
download the program again from the PageStream site, but could not find an
Amiga version!

Meanwhile, having installed 3.0.3.3, OS4 version, on my SAM, I copied it
over to the X1000. It launches more or less instantaneously, but doesn't do
what I need it to do, such as open a previous document (clicking Open has
no effect, another job for Snoopy, perhaps), and there is no graphics
import option in the menus (according to the readme, it wouldn't work right
anyway).

It's starting to look like I'll have to keep my SAM around, as a PageStream
machine. Sad

I have an x1000 but not yet up and running. But I remember having had problems on the A1 and SAM. They seem to be related to screens... try deleting (keep a copy) the prefs of pgs, not only, but also all the stuff in MUI that is related to pgs... it solved most of my problems --- In pagestreamamigabeta@yahoogroups.com, <mathias@...> wrote: Does anyone have PageStream working on an X1000?

Hi, I just installed pgs 5 pro on my brand nex X1000 and it works very well. Just be careful with the screen settings: I screwed it giving in prefs/screens the appearence "like wb". It doesn't like it. Define some standard screenmode in mui and use it. I wanted sticky menus, and did it through prefs/screens.

Hello Bart!

I am sorry, but don't get the point installing such an old
version. When you bought the current 5.x, you gained access
to the 4.1.5.6 version which is the latest complete 68k
release.

Sorry! Advanced dementia led me to type "3.0.3.3" for "5.0.3.3." I think I
had something earlier than 4.1.5.6 (which conked out on me years ago), but
it probably wasn't 3.n.n.n.

Thanks, This is very encouraging. I don't think I've looked at Prefs/Screens
at all yet, and I rarely dare try anything with MUI, but I certainly will
next chance I get.

Another thing I find encouraging is the fact that AppDebug.txt shows it
conking out exactly the same place as it had in October 2010, which must
have been on my A1. I did get it working fairly well on my A1, so I must
have solved the problem then and should be able to do so again.

This is where the system crashes, at 1841 lines, if of any interest:

Duplicate font:TomHud file1:Fonts:_TrueType/TomHud.ttf
file2:Fonts:_TrueType/TomHudson.ttf

Then, it seems to be a problem with fonts? Try deleting (keep a copy) Fontsubstitutiondata and pagestream5 fonts in UserPrefs and re-build the fonts prefs once you get pgs up and running

Apparently I had already done that, but skipped the "save" part. When I went
to follow your suggestion just now there were no files mentionaing fonts in
User.prefs. I will replace them with the files from SAM the next time I
boot the X1000.

In any event, it didn't do any good. In fact the new debug text came out
just 14 lines long, in spite of the fact that the usual elements showed up
on screen before the system crash.

I tried to take a photo of the Snoopy output, but didn't aim the camera
well, so I won't put it up for viewing on my web site, but if you think it
might be of any value, I could try again. Snoopy always seems to stop in
the same place, at a
FAIL = Lock("ENVARC:ELF.LazyBinding","SHARED) [18uS]
following, at least this last time,
Open("Apps:pgs5058/SoftLogik/Filters/PICT-Bitmap.rsc",OLD)

I'm going to try to find the original lha(?) download lying around
somewhere. I'd like to try reinstalling from scratch.

Interesting(?) thing about that: I thought maybe something in the prefs file
might be incompatible with how the X1000 was set up, so one of the first
things I did was to hide the one I copied over from the SAM, and run PgS
that way. Up came the window asking for registration, so I filled in the
info and it continued to the point where it crashes, leaving me with a
short new prefs file. I alternate between using it and the longer one, but
of course neither way gets me past the little tool box window (straight
up-and-down with the new prefs, in a four-by-four rectangle with the older
one) appearing just before the machine crash.

I have sometimes problems with the toolbox strip, appearing on the wb screen although pgs runs on a dedicated screen. Sometimes wothout crash (then I choose menu:hide toolbox and show toolbox), sometimes crashing the machine. But it happens seldom on the X1000. It could be related with MUI.

Go, dig inside system:preferences/Env-Archive/Mui and take away (keep a copy) everything related to Pagestream. It will put to zero all parameters for the windows (the toolbox IS a window) and screen. PGS will then appear on the WB and hopefully not crash. Then you will be able to redo the config from scratch
