I have PageStream 5.0.5.8 Pro in a directory that both OS'es can, of
course, access.

OS4.1u6 is in Opus5 WB-replacement mode. OS4.1FE is not, but I leave
the Directory Opus icon out, and usually click on it when i boot up.
Thereafter I am able to do things in whichever OS does them more
easily, switching from one screen to the other.

Meanwhile, my Opus5 hotkey commands work from either screen when I'm
in FE -- the ones that work there.

I have a hotkey combination Shift^Ctrl^P to launch PageStream with
Apps:pgs5058/pagestream5. When I boot OS4.1u6, that hotkey brings up
a usable PageStream quite quickly. When I boot FE, the hotkey brings
up the main screen with dead toolbar and edit controller, one on top
the other, but it never opens the central window with the "Open,"
"New," "Quit," etc. buttons.

There must be something different in the two Sys: directories, but I
seem to have MUI and Screen Prefs set up the same way in both. What
else should I look for in the FE version of SysConfused

I dont know if this applies to amiga at all, but if you launch pagestream from a shell will it output status/errors in the shell window? if it does that would be a good starting point for troubleshooting

It's impossible to say. There are so many different components between the 2 versions of the OS.
Maybe it's just a missing file as you have very different systems here. Try running Snoopy. It would help find if some files are missing on your FE system.

I turned out to be simply a matter of setting the screen up correctly
in MUI. It works now. Thank you.

I have been using the appdebug.txt file in UserPrefs, but that just
tells what it was trying to do when it stopped. But I have finally
got it fixed, tweaking MUI properly. Thank you.

Has anyone else noticed a vast improvement in how PageStream works
under FinalEdition?

I use 5.0.5.8 Pro, and for a long while it had been a problem under
OS4. I had to start it from the command line; clicking on the icon
would just crash the computer. Even using the command line I would
usually get a DSI error (and have to ignore it) before PageStream
came up usable, and those errors might recur when opening a file.
Opening "Recent file" often cause a crash.

Even after I got my X1000 those problems continued, so I know the
X1000 alone didn't cure the problems. But now I can launch PageStream
5 by clicking on its icon (and, yes, waiting as long as ever), and
opening old or new files works fairly quickly, with no error notices
or crashes. I really enjoy using it again, like I did under OS3.9!

That is good news, even if it is a little surprising. What filesystem(s) are
you using for the system partition and for the PageStream installation?

Have they changed with the new FE install?

Hello Tony

I'm using SFS\02 for all my directories. Except for making a new
SFS\02 partition to move OS4.1u6 to as backup, freeing dh0: for
OS4.1FE, I didn't change anything.

I didn't change anything in PageStream preferences, but I wonder if
for some reason I did something to MUI? No memory of modifying MUI,
but I was astonished--and pleased--to have the PageStream screen come
up with a black background:

The first time I saw that, I thought it must be due to FE, but now I
think it's MUI. I should experiment.

Aloha,
Bart
