I don't know if I do anything wrong. But I downloaded the Pagestream4.1
linux just for an hour ago. Because I thought that you actually are able
to use the program at this point.

I have a Slackware installation 9.0 I think, I run GNOME 2.2 I think,
and I have installed Pagestream in a folder as the readme.linux.txt told
me to.

Then I've added these two export commands in my newly created .bashrc
file in my home directory. Of course I have taken in consideration of
where I saved the PageStream drawer when I added the export line in the
.bashrc file. After that i added the ld.so.conf line into that line and
rebuilded the thingy and restarted the computer becuase it didn't work
at first. The error message I get now is

'PageStream4: error while loading shared libraries: liblcms.so.1: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory'

Is that a libary I need that I don't have or what it is? Anyone any clue?

Thanks for your time.

With regards,

Rolf Eric

Hi, that is little cms, and it handles color management (improved color
seps, color display, color printing etc). Support in PageStream right now
is marginal, but I have better code here in works. At this time the library
is not optional, but it could be made so. However, it really is a good
idea! As it is free, and included in most distributions, I can't imagine a
reason not to support it!

Thanks, that helped!

As you perhapse noticed, my dist didn't have this little library and it
took me a while to find it, but if people in future have the same
question, you can more straight away advice them to its homepage, saves
trouble and time for all involved...

http://www.littlecms.com

I where able this morning to over come this issue, but have run into
another one though. Now I can't get the window size changed. It's stuck
on 5 %, and as you know as well as I do, that isn't much to play cards
with...

I tried to delete the preference file in my home directory to see if
that could solve the problem, but it didn't. It worked fine the first
times I started PageStream, but after a few crashes and startups and so
on I decieded to go through the settings to make sure I got millimeter
instead of inches and that my favarite language was set and other tiny
things that I prefer. One of those setting was instead of see the page
full I wanted to see the page width as standard, and after that
alternation I can't get it back again. No matter if I push the
mountains, custom scale, or take one of the predefined scales in the
list it doesn't change. It's like no matter what you choose or push, the
custom scale square is showing the lovely 5,% and nothing else.

It is a true joy that I have comed soo far with the PageStream
installation! But I need to over come this tiny issue before I can start
to work with it. I understand that now more then ever I need to save
very frequently because the tendensy of the program to crash is higher
then ever in my PageStream experiance. But no matter what, if this
version show me that I can work with it, I will almost never need to
logon my Windows installation witch is great!

How do you want crashes to be reported? I have experiance that when I
try to scroll the page in width view it can crash if I have text
selected out of the sight, and the font errors are a bit annoying but
just something I need to fix!

Thanks for your time and efforts!

And when I'm at it, another question. What is the diffrence between 4.1
and 4.1 Pro of the PageStream versions?

with regards,

Rolf Eric Anithason

Sorry, you are correct. I should build a list of dependencies and the web
sites they can be found at. Anyone have any opinion about how far I should go?

For example, gnome requires gtk which requires glib (and pango and...) and
fontconfig requires expat1...

gtk+-2.0 Gimp Toolkit http://www.gtk.org/
gmodule-2.0
gdk-pixbuf-2.0
glib-2.0
libgnome-2.0
Gnome http://www.gnome.org/
libgnomeui-2.0
gnome-vfs-2.0
freetype
Freetype
http://www.freetype.org/
fontconfig Font
Configuration http://www.fontconfig.org/
lcms
Little Color Management
System http://www.littlecms.com/
jpeg
JPEG ?????

Has anyone run across a dependency that I don't have listed?

Just report the problems here!

Pro version is a bundle with TextFX, Gary's Effects, Borders 1 & 2, Paper
Direct templates and Home & Office forms.

The more detailed the better, IMO. Some people only list the direct
requirements and that can get to be a pain.

Not here. SuSE default install appears to include everything except for the
libgnomeui which you include in the list.
