First, due to problems with the latest versions I am using PgS Linux 4.1.6.21
so I admit that this isn't the latest and greatest.

I would be reporting this as a bug, but unfortunately testing shows it as not
being as reproducible as it first looked and I'm looking for ideas.

Original Exposure Of Problem:
1. Close PgS
2. Install font (carta, shareware font from Fresh Fonts) using KDE control
center for a project
3. The font didn't look so good in the preview of the font installer so:
3a. Start PgS again
4b. Create new document
4c. Create frameless text, about 36pts in carta (first five or six chars in
upper and lower, numbers, "the quick brown fox")
4d. Looks fine, close test document
4e. Click "don't save" when prompted
4f. PgS crashes

Looking to make sure it was reproducible I ran through the same procedure. I
sized the text after writing it and the exact text was indubitably different.
However, it still crashes when clicking don't save. As my log file had no
output I decided to run from the commandline, "just to see." It crashes at
the same point. Just as with the log, nothing written to stdout or stderr.

Wanting to bound the problem better I decided to see what would happen if I
*did* save the document. Same steps, except save before closing. Works fine.
The test document opens fine. I was expecting a crash so I started seeing
what would make it crash and now *nothing* makes it crash.

Is it possible/reasonable that making PgS save it once "corrected" the
problem?

Is it possible/reasonable that "it just took time" from the font install to
avoiding the crashing behavior?

At present I'm leary of using the font (I'm afraid that a document using it
will end up making PgS crash on load or something and thus lose the
contents), but I was rather wanting to use some of the symbols it has.

Any ideas?

No, it is possible that the don't save routines would cause it to crash,
but saving once should not change the code! (or anything else). Wait, one
thing different next time you run PageStream. The recently used file list.
Maybe that is your problem?

I suppose some internal linux cache that I am not aware of didn't like the
installation, or more likely something didn't like the font?

I can't tell you for sure if the font is to blame. It is suspicious that it
appears differently.
