Hallo, I'm an Amiga PS4 user, I bought the GNU/Linux version of the
PS5, I installed it on a Mandrake 10.1 and on an Ubuntu, but I have
several problems.
- I cannot import rtf text in both, when I try the program deads
- the pdf exporting feature does not work in the right way, I put
several diffents fonts in the same page, but when I export it the pdf
sometimes seem corrupted, when it works the fonts are not the same I
see on the screen, but if I print a postscript file all is ok, I view
the correct fonts (I do not know if thi ml accepts attachments, if yes
I can send you some very light examples)
- when I use a text frame on the screen is all ok, but if I try to
export in pdf the lines go out of the border of the page
- many times the postscript file I print is corrupted, or the printing
is very long (several minutes per two lines) or both

Are these problems of the distro or of ps5?

Thanks, Pietro.

That shouldn't be happening. I haven't used the RTF filter in a long time, but
I haven't heard other reports of it not working. What application produced
the RTFs?

The PDF export at this time does not support font embedding. In practice what
this means is the fonts will be substituted for display. The work around is
to print to a postscript file and use ghostscript (I use the 'ps2pdf'
command) to convert to PDF.

Doing so also preserves a few other things that aren't supported by PgS's PDF
export (arrow heads, cropped graphics and some others).

If the lines just extend somewhat past the text frame this is just an artifact
of font substitution.

In what way is it corrupted? What printer are you printing to?

Well, some are limitations of the current PgS. The last problem might be the
distro, might be PgS, might be the printer. Some printers that support PCL
and PS don't switch between the two gracefully or their implementation might
not be quite compatible.

Anyway, I would be happy to check one of your RTFs -- you can send it direct
or upload it to the group's files. That would help determine if it is
something about your setup or PgS.

I saved it using OpenOffice 1.1.2.

I send you three files, the first is the pgs5 file, the second is the
postscript file I tried to print, but the program died, the third is a
rtf the kill pgs5 when I try to import it.

Now I have some problems with postscript printing, but I want to make
some more test.

I'll give that a shot here.

I believe attachments are blocked from the list and I haven't gotten any
direct mails from you.

Let us know what you find.

I uploaded a small rtf file to the group "files" folder, this file
kills my PgS5, I created it using OO 1.1.2 on an Ubuntu GNU/Linux.

I do not understand, sometimes ps file printing works fast and
smoothly (such as today), sometimes it gives me a corrupted ps file or
it takes several minutes (15 or more) to print a truncated or
corrupted file. I'll let you know if I find something.

I put the rtf files into the file folder of the group, someone has
tested it?

Yes, and it works fine for me under .36. Have you tried .36?

Yes I have tested it. It works fine assuming it only consists of the one word
"Prova"
Under Pagestream Amiga 4.1.5 and Pagestream Linux 4.1.6.21.
Of course you have to draw a text frame and do an insert text on your document
page.

I also did an open with (under Linux) Abiword, Kword and OpenOffice.org Writer
and it worked fine there too.

Not yet, I'm downloading it now. But that rtf gives me problems both on
.35 and 4pro on a mandrake 10.1 and on an Ubuntu. I write a text-frame,
with the context menu I choose to import a text then I choose the rtf,
it ask me for the the text code, I choose ok and then it returns me the
requester:

The Application "PageStream5Pro" has quit unexpectedly.

You can inform the developers of what happened to help them fix it. Or
you can restart the application right now.

It has the same behavior on 4pro and 5pro.

I'll try the .36, but so I suppose it is a distro problem, but why I
have the same error on two different distro?

Thanks, Pietro.

This sounds like a bug reported on the list (and I added to bugzilla as #116)
that seems to have gone away in .36 -- basically import of even a trivial
(one word) rtf caused PgS to crash.

Try the new version, it may work.
