Hi, all --

I've just joined this list, having recently cross-graded from
PGS-Amiga to PGS-Linux. A quick scan through recent messages shows no
topic that touches on my current problem, which is inability to run
PGS from Gnome menus in Ubuntu (Debian) 5.10. This seems to be due to
my inability to set up a path to .../Softlogik/libs/, as my system
doesn't quite store path information in the way the "readme" file expects.

Is anyone reading this also using Ubuntu, with a ready solution? If
not, guess I'll have to thrash my way through the Ubuntu Forums and
report back here.

While I don't use Ubuntu have you tried the Run PageStream script? That should
handle the setting of paths. The script is written for bash, but as long as
bash is installed on your system as /bin/bash it should work.

Oh, indeed it does; however, it provides me with no clues as to how to
get those paths recognized by my system so that I can get PGS to run
from a Gnome menu rather than having to navigate to the script every
time. Just linking the *script* to the menu fails with a complaint about
inability to launch the "RUN" child process. 8-(

I'm not familiar with Gnome (being a KDE user), but I would try renaming the
script file so that it has no spaces.

Hmmm. I'd assumed that was not the problem (since RUN is used in the
script, and it's what's named in the failure message) but I'll try
re-naming and see if there's any change in behavior.

BTW, I used to use KDE with Mandrake but got so fed up with that distro
(and found Konqueror such a klunk as a file manager) that I hopped on
board with Ubuntu as soon as it appeared and have been a much happier
Linux user ever since.

You got it in one, and many thanks. Now PGS runs happily with the script
name connected to the Gnome menu, and I needn't worry about how Ubuntu
handles path storage until some later time.
