Open a document
Open a second view
Try to navigate to a chapter in the first view by clicking on the page number,
etc. and it will update the second view

Close the second view
First view unresponsive: clicks in the window are now ignored
Select "show window" for the first view from the menu and first view becomes
responsive.

Exact steps aren't at hand, but it is at least close to:
Open two views
Copy an object in one view
Paste the object in the second view
Nudge the object with the arrow keys (possibly even click to drag) and the
object pops to the first view
To avoid this problem after pasting the object in the second view click any
where on the page in the second view, then controls work normally.

---
For me this is normal usage, I normally keep two views of a document open
(when working with projects of size and multiple chapters).

Oh yeah, showed off PgS's multi select in text this morning (off topic, but
does any other application allow that? I used it many times this morning)

There is a much simpler way to accomplish the "copy". IF you are referring to
a second view in the same document.
Select object.
Go to page where object is desired.
Select duplicate.
Object will appear on the present page--a neat feature, I think! Besides,
copying a 5 megapixel picture can take a while, even on an Athlon 64.
And I still sometimes have a blank second view...

I use that trick a lot, I'm not sure at this point why I wasn't using it in
this case. Seems like there was a reason but for the life of me I can't
remember what.
