Hello Deron,

Yesterday I down loaded PageStreamPro 5.0.4.28 Linux and today I
installed it. It didn't run! I have found the following problems:

1. The links to the libs in .../SoftLogik/lib have absolute addresses
and thus pointing to /home/deron... which of course isn't on my
computer. I corrected them using ln -s with relative addresses and
then Pgs started, sort of...

2. Now i got a requestor saying that there were 3 filters with
doubles. I deleted the oldest FinalWriter.tfl, Png.tfl and
ProWrite.tfl from .../SoftLogik/Filters. That seemed to fix this
problem. If it's the correct solution I don't know.

3. Now I came to a new requestor saing that this beta had expired and
that I should by the program. I do own a copy of Pgs5Pro and all
eariler versions are running fine. Now I gave up!

4. Unfortunately 5.0.4.28 in some way damaged my config file so all
windows had to be replaced and resized again. I liked my old
layout Wink

It's rally nice to have a new version also for Linux and I look
forward to test it further once I have it running.

Best regards
Jan

PS. I know that attachments are striped so I also send a copy to
support@pagestream.org DS.

Must not have the release script right yet. All new computer setup. If
you deleted the oldest duplicates, all is well.

Check your system date. The code is based on the current Mac compile
scripts which enables expirations 30 days after each release. No serious
need for that on the Linux release, but I had already compiled
everything when I noticed it.

No idea why, but any details you can provide would be helpful. Ah, it
quit without loading the settings, but probably saved the (default)
settings.

My system date _is_ correct (as can also be seen from the first line
in this message). Is there perhaps an old date hardcoded into the
program?

OK, so this might be a result of 3 above!? I have made a copy of my
prefs so I can test again without taking the risk of having to redo
my layout again. I will test as soon as the expired requestor is
taken care of. For now it's a showstoper.

The only other thing I can think of is you have a fast system. If it
loads to fast it doesn't notice a time increase and fails.

Hello Deron,

First I didn't understand the meaning of what you wrote, but today I
took some time and experimented a bit. It turns out that there must
be some time ( a minute or something like that) between closure of
the program and reopening. Otherwise the "beta expired" requestor
comes up and the preferences are overwritten with some default ;-(
Sometimes the same happens also when there has been several minutes
between closing and opening. I have been unable to find a
reproducable pattern for this. Also not all of the prefs are
overwritten. My registration info and a lot of other info is
preserved, but the window show/hide and position info is lost.

Now I can try the program and it does load my documents. However,
there are some problems:

1. The zoom and page navigation controls at the bottom af the document
window are gone!? Are they moved somewhere else or just forgotten?

2. The zoom seems to start with some very small value and the document
offcentered and thus I first believed the document wasn't loaded.
However, when I just click with the mouse in the scrollbar it
switches to my normal zoomsetting (100%). I have to do that in both
the vertical and horizontal bar and then it's also possible to use
the mousewheel to move around.

3. I also tried to create a new document and save it to check if this
had something to do with my old docs. After reopening this new one I
got the same behaviour.

4. When opening a second document in a new window that window is just
blank until I close the first window. Then the second window is
redrawn and displays as per 2 above.

Jan,
I hope this helps some.

Though I have NOT been able to really run PageStream5Pro5.0.4.28, I have
gotten it partly up using ltrace. It also wiped out my toolbar setup and
changed the toolbox to hidden. I went to a data backup of the prefs and was
able to reset the toolbar setup by carefully cutting and pasting (with gedit)
the appropriate line(s). Note: the lines are NOT in the same order! The
prefs are located (with PageStream desktop named PageStream5) at
~/.PageStream5/PageStream5.prefs . It is a plain text file, it seems.
Once you get it setup correctly again, I recommend you set the windows in the
positions desired. Also, .28 changed the default size of a newly opened
window. You need to open a file and resize the window. Then go to the
Window menu, down to the Remember Window Positions, and select it. Then,
when prefs are again correct, go to File>Preferences, then to the bottom menu
in Preferences and select "Save As" and name the file something appropriate,
maybe even PageStream5.prefs, but somewhere in the PagStream data area, not
in ~./PageStream5/PageStream5.prefs . This way you have a backup prefs that
can be loaded when needed.

They have been set to "hidden" in prefs. See the "Window" menu. You will
need to change this/these before saving.

I can't even log in--name, number, etc.

I have this problem in .30. Sometimes moving the slider redraws. But there
is a focus problem that prevents any real use of a second window. Also,
closing the selected second window usually closes the unselected first
window, at least on my Suse 11.0 x86-64 system using 5.0.4.30.
