Hello,

As my present computer is rather old and has problems with the raid
system when I try to upgrade to Fedora 10 I'm planning get a new
motherboard etc and an Intel 64bit quad processor. Is it possible to
run PageStream on such a setup and Fedora 10? It runs quite well on
the system I have now.

Does anyone have any experience of running PageStream on 64bit Linux?

Thanks in advance
Jan

Hi,

I am attempting to use on OpenSuse 11.0 X86_64, but cannot get it to
print, no matter what I try.

Using a network printer (works well with other applications) HP 7680

I tried to copy copy and unzip the PPD into the Softlogic folder
/home/chufarj/Documents/BIN/PageStream5.0.4.31pro.x86/SoftLogik/Printers/PPD/HP/
hp-officejet_pro_l7600-hpijs.ppd

No luck.

2. Tried to export to PDF and print - same error when printing using
Acroreader

3. Tried to print to postscript (this used to work on older PGS
versions), opening with KGhostview shows a blank page.

The pgs file is 1 page with a few text boxes and a simple box.

Any ideas how to print with OpenSuse11.0?

B. Creating a border then clicking on FX crashes PGS. (5.0.4.31)

Tks

Hello,

I don't see any actual error details in the job report. not much help.

First, try printing _just_ a box. No text. Same for PDF. You may be
having a font issue.

For the PDF, it could be the age of the version of Acrobat though that
would normally result in an error when you tried to display it not print
it. In fact, the fact that the error happens in the PDF at print time
casts doubt that the PDF problem is a PageStream problem.

If you can't print a plain box, and you can't print the postscript file
generated from that plain box, I would start looking at an issue with
not being able to print any postscript.

Just ideas to get started with...

As I wrote the other day I was planning to switch to a 64 bit system.
This system (Fedora 10 x86_64) is now up and running now after a lot
of work. Many programs that only exist in 32 bit versions (like
PageStream) need a lot of 32 bit libraries. The trick is to try to
start them from the command line and check the output for missing
libs. (PageStream only complained about missing "libgnomeui" but with
"yum install libgnomeui.i386" there were several deps that got
installed as well.) Now I have a VERY nice system and PageStream
starts in less than 2 seconds and is very responsive.

My first attempt to print resulted in ... nothing. I had selected my
Hp Photosmart printer in the drop down at the top of the "Printer
setup" window and the PPD field got filled in by itself with the
corresponding hpijs PPD. I had a faint memory that this might be wrong
so I checked a backup of my old config file. There I found
HPColorLaserJetv2013.114 from what is coming with PageStream. After
selecting and saving this PPD printing works fine (and I could also
select A4 for the European paper size).

Try to switch to an original PPD (HPColorLaserJetv2013.114 works fine
for me, but I don't know if it's the best one) and you should have
printing working!

Regards
Jan
