Since many time, sometimes I have problems importing text (italian)
Word .doc and rtf files.
Quotes, apostrophes and dashes enhanced are inserted as a "y" character
with a dieresis on the top (a character not found?).
I don't know if that depends on the version of MS Word which generated
files. (The files are not edited by me, but by other people)

To by-pass the problem I have to load the .doc document in OpenOffice
and convert it in rtf and viceversa.

If you need I could send to you a part of an example doc file.

Same problem here with Danish Word documents, but as you say, OpenOffice
solves the problem.
