5.0.4.34 beta Pro Linux-i86 on openSUSE 11.1 x86-64 bit, 8GB mem.
Kde desktop 3.5.10 (but w/ a full gnome/gtk install as well)

Really like how quickly this version starts up.
Problems I have encountered

Pagestream quits when a document window is closed (tried w/ a single
document and w/ 2 open documents) In both cases clicking the close
window button for a document window causes Pagestream to shutdown
immediately. Last line of shell output included.

(PageStream5Pro:10333): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: gsignal.c:2916:
signal id `2' is invalid for instance `0x8f8bb78'

The navigator window sometimes opens other times does not

Startup tips in navigator window do not show until you click next or
previous.

Thanks for everything and happy new year!

I have 5.0.4.34 beta Pro Linux-i86 on Fedora 10 x86-64 bit, 4GB mem.
Kde desktop 4.1.3 (but with the required gtk/gnome libs installed).

> Really like how quickly this version starts up.

Yes, it's really fast.

Unable to duplicate this, so far only one certain way to crash
PageStream ..34, see below.

> The navigator window sometimes opens other times does not

It takes a very long time to open, about 8-10 seconds after all other
windows are opened, but it always opens for me. I noticed this long
delay first in ..33.

> Startup tips in navigator window do not show until you click next
> or previous.

No, there is another long delay after the navigator window has opened,
but it eventually displays by itself, at least for me.

I still have the crash when undoing a paste and the page still starts
way off centred so I have to use the quick fix: Mouse wheel left Wink

Deron, before Christmas I sent you a copy of my prefsfile and a sample
document off list, but never heard anything from you. Did you get it?

To duplicate the undo crash:
1. Start a new document.
2. Draw a rectangle.
3. Copy it (ctrl-c).
4. Paste it (ctrl-v).
5. Select undo (from menu or tool bar).
6. PageStream disappears.

About the off centred start: I renamed my ~/.PageStream5 directory and
let PageStream start all over creating a new directory and prefsfile
to no avail. Any new or opened page is still way off centred as it
opens, but becomes perfectly centred after moving my mouse wheel left
momentarily.

Furthermore I have found a new small detail. All windows start nicely
in the last used position (btw, I vote for a menu item to snapshot
them). The only exception is the script window which is always started
in the upper left corner of the screen and has to be draged to its
location. This started in .33 or .34.

A little bit late perhaps, but a

HAPPY NEW YEAR

to all on this list.

I tried as another user and the problem did not occur.
I know in the past Pagestream has had sensitivities to some kde
themes (or kde-gtk settings). Perhaps that is happening here.

I counted to 45, without the navigator opening, got bored and
started messing w/ the menu's in the toolbar, finally it opened.

Decided to try waiting it out but got bored after 60 seconds,
started messing w/ the toolbar menus and then the navigator window
opened.

Third try, started messing around w/ file menu as soon as window
opened and navigator opened in about 4 seconds.

I think I am detecting a relationship here.

BTW I can easilly open a new document even though the navigator is
not open so it seems Pagestream is fully functional even though the
navigator isn't happening without help.

You appear to be spot on here, (guess I'm impatient, or have a quick
trigger finger)

Can't duplicate this, things appear to start where I expect

I was able to duplicate this in my setup.

I thought that used to be an option but I don't find it now.
I also vote for it Smile

Here does not crash.

Here it works.
The Navigator is late, and the tips are more late, but it works.

I am running PageStream 5.0.4.34 and the above problem copy-paste-undo
is still present.

This might also be a difference between Kde 3.5.10 and 4.1.3, if so
about the only advantage for 4.1.3 Wink

You certainly are! In fact I only have to move the mouse pointer
anywhere over the desktop for the window to open. I didn't see the
connection as I, while waiting, did something else. Weird.

Well, I can't, as the window opens as soon as I move the mouse Smile

I have found it!!! Finally, after searching a lot, I found out that if
I set File>Preferences>View>View Magnification to anything other than
"Entire Page" the document opens way off centred. I had selected
"Actual size" as I like to have it like that when I work. After saving
and reopening Preferences that is changed to Other and 100% and the
document is again way off centred. This is fully reproducible for me.
Can you reproduce this?
Deron, can you fix it?

I believe that menu item was removed somewhere early in this series of
betas.

Doe's your script window stay put where you place it?

I certainly hope! I've been unable to reproduce the problem, but I'll
give it another try. With 3 platforms releases on the same day, I
obviously have a lot of email to sort through but I'm glad for the
feedback. Finally feel like I'm getting close to another solid release.

The Pallette windows (all that I tried) always open up in the bottom
right corner of the screen the first time they are opened. As long
as the document is open I can place the palette where I want and
close it, when I open the palette again it will open where I had
placed it.

Once I quit and restart Pagestream the palette windows open in the
bottom right corner of the screen again.

Make note, I did not create a new ~/.pagestream folder so my old
preferences may be at play here.

Also, --sometimes-- pagestream does not quit instantly when I close
a document window, once or twice (in my simple testing) the program
stayed open after closing the document window (as it should). I'll
try w/ an empty prefs folder later.

Replying to myself
The longer I leave Pagestream running, the more likely it will
continue to run after closing a document window. If I open
Pagestream and then forget about it, I can come back later and
close the document window w/ a reasonable chance that Pagestream
won't quit w/ the window.

If I do things quickly (program open 1 - 3 minutes while testing
things out) I am more likely to experience the program quitting
with the document window.

apparently a problem w/ an older prefs file, Seems to work as it
should w/ a newly generated file (accepted defaults)

Any chance you have multiple monitors or some other unusual setup?

On the other hand, if PageStream doesn't close properly, it obviously
won't have a chance write your data out.

I just tried, set default to 75% and got the same results you did
(had to track down the active part of the page)

Single monitor 1600*1200. I use kde's advanced window management to
remove borders and lock the placement of many of the palettes and
windows.

I think the problem was either with the old prefs file or the folder
paths I had chosen.

I allowed Pagestream to create a new ~/.Pagestream5 folder and
~/Pagestream folder (w/ its sub folders and files) and things seem
to work as they should now

Also Palette windows now seem to open in the same location they were
previously used (as opposed to the bottom right corner which seems
to be the default. Maybe

The undo paste issue still seems to be there though, as does
the "default view magnification" issue

If you by any change have that type of mouse, try to move the mouse
wheel to the left momentarily when the page is off centred. For me the
page becomes centred immediately. Moving it right doesn't work.

Hi, I've got a logitech mx-620 that does have side scrolling but
I've never spent the time to correctly set that part up.

Love to see your xorg.config to give it a try though
you can send it directly to me
mesamoo115(at)comcast.net

In return I'll be glad to try your experiment
