I am runing PGS 5.0.4.44 beta on Ubuntu 8.10. My experience so far is
that I can only you fonts, which seem to be avaialble from the system.
As I have some old PGS documents created with Amiga I want to update and
print them with PGS 5. Most of the fonts used are Intellifont and simply
copying those into /usr/share/fonts does not help.

Anybody to give me a hint?

On Linux I add fonts all the time using PageStream's built in font
preferences. (File->System Prefs->Fonts). Your problem is that
Intellifonts are not supported anywhere by anyone except on the Amiga
and PageStream5 won't be supporting Intellifonts there either.

I created TrueType version of the fonts included with PageStream and you
can download them from the PageStream website. The conversion was done
with TypeSmith on the Amiga which is the only program I know that can
convert fonts. However, TypeSmith only supports 256 characters per font,
so the conversion was/is less than ideal.

So the hint would be to either substitute with other fonts, or convert
them with TypeSmith on the Amiga.

Thank you for your quick reply. Downloaded the file and copied the fonts
to the /usr/share/fonts/ folder.
Will have to try it later.

Hallo PageStream,

Thank you, I got it working!

With "Save as PDF" fonts included I could reproduce my old work. Then
copying it to a Windows machine gave good prints. Printing on ubuntu 8.10
does not work. But before digging deeper in this issue I will wait for
ubuntu 9.04 which is due on 23. april. Only a few days to go.
Will see what the new version will bring.

Hello,

I presume that the browser you were using didn't like something in the
PDF file? If so, you might try some others. Maybe even a recent copy of
Reader would solve your problems.

Hello PageStreamers!

Need some support with PGS5.0.0.45Pro.

I cannot call or start any external script. The menu Scripts does not
allow to look for external scripts. I recall from earlier versions that
a file requester opend to choose a script to excute. The requester does
not open.
Please, find a screen shot at
<a href="http://www.dhps.de/priv/Screenpictures"> Screen pictures </A>

Would be grate full for any hint. System ubuntu 9.04, python 2.4, 2.5
and 2.6 installed. Python 2.6 came with ubuntu 9.04 automatically.

Ok poked around a bit... Smile
You can find your scripts in the script pallete, I found the external ones that i created for testing there.
You can load external ones script pallete, Oddly the one i indicated not to be shown in the drop down scripts menu shows in the pallete. plus you can access others from there.
Look like this is a bug, or an oversight on deron's part..

Hello,

I just checked here, and 5.0.4.45 allows external scripts to be played
just fine. The menu item is disabled if it can not find a version of
python to load and init fine. I presume this worked before and you made
no changes to your python installation?

Can you verify that a file like libpython2.6.so is available? It is also
possible for you to specific an exact library and version number to use.
In your preferences file, add the line

PYTHONLIBRARY <path/libpython2.x.so> <pythonapinumber like 1013>

The number 1013 is probably what you want, but if you use an older
version like 2.4 you might need an older api number like 1012.

More info needed!

I don't exactly follow what you are saying, but the script palette lists
internal "macros" and is not the same as trying to execute external
python scripts as Heiko was having problems with. To be clear, the
Script palette really should be called the Macro palette. Python scripts
and internal macros use a similar interface, and you can export an
internal macro to a python script, but not the other way around.

Ok, that said we should try and resolve your issue. The default internal
macros that are included in every release can be overridden by your own
choices. If you want to bring back the defaults, open the script
palette. Then from the minimenu in the upper right corner choose Load.
The default scripts should be in "<PageStream>/Defaults/PageStream5
Scripts". Then save it to replace your current scripts.

More details can be seen athttp://www.pagestream.org/showdocs.php?id=71.

So the "load" option in the script pallete loads a location (dir) and not scripts?

i've got the latest version,by the looks of it, of the python interpreter installed <Python 2.6 (r26:66714, Feb 3 2009, 20:49:49) >
could this be that it wants the 32bit version only for external scripts?
scripts run ok, but the drop down menu is still ghosted.

ok read up on the difference between internal and external scripts.
now that the only differnece between the two, is the command set involved, and the internal scripts run.
why are there two different ways to access them? I would assume these days one need not specify that there are commands in the script that PGS cannot execute..
hhmmm memories of ADDRESS COMMAND...... Smile (i hope as my memory isnt so good as it used to be on my older model wet ware...)

Hello Deron!

The explanation about the difference between macros and scripts cleared
the fog in my head. Therefore I suggest to rename the scripts menu to
macro menu.

Now the good news. Update ubuntu 9.04 somehow destroyed the python link
in /usr/lib/python2.6/libpython2.6.so.
Removing the dead link and replacing it with a valid one pointing to
/usr/lib/pythonlib2.6.so.1.1 did however not work. Even after a reboot.
Following your advice and adding the line

PYTHONLIBRARY /usr/lib/libpython2.6.so.1.1 1013

solved my problem.

I could start the script "createcalendar_1.1.4" and it produced the
calendar.

Thank you for your good advice!!!

No. PageStream Internal Scripts are all stored in a single file just
like your default colors, default text styles and default object styles.

Has this worked before? PageStream for Linux is a 32bit application and
must have 32bit libraries. This is the way it has always been. However,
this has _nothing_ to do with the list of Internal Scripts that show in
the Script palette. External scripts can only be executed by choosing
Play External Script from the Script menu, or they can be execute from
an Internal Script.

If a "valid" version of Python can not be found by PageStream, the Play
External Script menu option will be disabled. The list of Internal
Scripts will still be listed and functional.

> scripts run ok, but the drop down menu is still ghosted.
>

Do you mean the Play External Script menu item, or the entire Script
menu? If the former, then please see the other thread for details on
fixing this.

Well, it does not sound like you understand the difference between a
PageStream internal script, and an external script. While it would be
possible to integrate external scripts into the scripts menu in a
different way etc, this doesn't change the problem at hand.

As to two different ways to access them, I can only make guesses what
you mean. Are you talking about Play External vs Script palette?
Internal scripts are parsed by PageStream and do not have variables,
loops, conditional statements etc. Just a list of actions. External
scripts on the other hand are executed by an external process (be it
Python, or Arexx on the Amiga, or even AppleScript on the Mac) and those
external processes provide variables, can query PageStream, conditional
code and loops etc.

In the past I toyed with the idea of adding some kind of Interpreter to
PageStream to add some higher scripting abilities, I just don't see that
it is all that important considering the choices already out there for
scripting.

Ok, so now that I took that detour....
