PgS 5.0.5.1 generates PDFs fine. As I recall, I did have trouble with an earlier version of PgS and PDF output - it shifted the whole page to the left and down. I did a workaround of printing to a PostScript file, then running the file through pstopdf. That output was fine.

I tried exporting a PDF of a 200 page book directly from Pagestream, and it only put text and graphics on the first 5 or so pages. All the other pages in the resulting PDF were blank. As though it had run out of memory, or choked on something.

Then I installed CUPS, so I could print to a PDF. Printing the same file from Pagestream to the PDF printer driver worked perfectly (at least it seems that way, after a quick scan through). Everything came out as it should.

What the above means, I have no idea!

David

Tests I just ran all properly generated large PDF files. If you can send
the document (and any external graphics) to me at
support@pagestream.org, I will be happy to try and reproduce your issue.

Hi Deron,

I don't know what changed, or whether I've changed something, but I just
tried it again, to see whether it was reproducible, and the PDF it
generated seemed to be fine, opens well on Ubuntu and also on a Windows
machine using Acrobat 9.

So all good. Sorry about the false alarm.

A question though -- is it possible to tell Pagestream what size page to
use when exporting a PDF? My document has a page size of 8" tall x 5"
wide, but when I export the PDF it comes out on a letter-sized page. I
can't see where to change that setting.

Thanks,
David

OK, and cancel this question about page size -- I was looking at a PDF generated by CUPS (duh!) -- the PDF generated by Pagestream is on the correct sized page.

There's one more issue I have to investigate, and that's the separation of spot colours in PDFs generated by Pagestream.

With PageStream you can create a document with multiple page sizes. The
most common is simply a mix of landscape and portrait documents, but it
could be ledger and business card in a single document. The PDF output
should properly respect those varying page sizes.

What you can not do with PageStream's built in PDF generation is put a
page on a _different_ PDF "paper" size. To do that, you would need to
generate a postscript file by printing to disk and convert that to a PDF.
