The text that I'm editing in Pagestream has been imported as an RTF that was exported from InDesign running under Wine. Perhaps there could be some markup code issues causing the confusion?

OK, I think using an RTF from InDesign was the problem -- I saved the
text I'm waiting to use as a plain vanilla text file, and imported that
into Pagestream.

So far, everything's going perfectly, none of the problems I had with
the RTF text have surfaced.
