Hi all

I have just downloaded the 5.0.5.7 version and started to play with it ...
nothing serious ...

In the Object > Line & Fill box there seems to be a duplication of the tabs

Line Fill Screen Trapping Line Fill Screen Trapping

The left set appear to be non-functional/responsive

I would assume there should only be one set.

The toolbar is wider than my screen (which is set to 1680 x 1050) and not
resizable which means moving it left and right as the need arises.

Enough for the moment.

Ken

Oops ... I meant to put that in my post ... it was getting late though ...
that's my excuse.

I'm running Ubuntu .. which I suppose by default means Gnome.

There's a couple of other things that bug me ...
You have to remember to start Pagestream on its own desktop otherwise al the
windows get lost in the crowd (so to speak).
You lose a fair bit of "real estate" to the chunky window borders.

The problem with the toolbar has been there the last few versions - very
annoying!
The solution could be that you could choose between several different
sizes of icons.

Hallo Ken,

Which version of ubuntu are you running?

Since I updated to 10.4LTS I cannot run the Scripts.
Only scripts produced with recording actions can be run. All other scripts
(python scipts) are not shown in the scripts list.
10.4LTS has no support for python2.5 anymore. Only 2.6 or 3.1 are available.

Until last week I was running Hardy heron (I think that's what it was called)
but I did a dist-upgrade to Lucid Lynx (that's the 10.4LTS as you are running)
.... since then I have lost my audio and haven't found a remedy that works.

Haven't tied running scripts yet or doing anything else for that matter.

Most likely you will either need to edit your PageStream pref file to
include the name of the python library, or include a symbolic link to
the python library. Each new distro seems to be getting more
inconsistent in the naming of the python library.

just decompress the file to your home directory for starters. you might
want to make a new subdirectory for it there as well.
once it is decompressed you can start pagestream by double clicking the
Run-Pagestream5 file there.
you will need to put in your registration information in the dialog that
shows up.

What line do I have to additionally put into the prefs file?

I've already done that, thanks. It's the Linux installation document
that I'm uncertain about. They are:

Copy the contents to any location. To your shell startup script
(.bashrc) put something
like:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/path/to/pagestream/SoftLogik/lib
export PATH=$PATH:/path/to/pagestream

You may also need to edit the text file /etc/ld.so.conf and add the line
to the /path/to/pagestream/SoftLogik/lib then run from a shell

ldconfig -v

to rebuild the cache of where lib files can be found.

Setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to the path of the PageStream libraries is not
necessary
if PageStream is installed at /opt/PageStream4 or /usr/local/PageStream4.

I'm afraid I put it in my home folder under the main user, and then
double-clicked, before reading. Do I need to put it in
/urs/local/PageStream and start over? I can't find .bashrc. And I'm
not sure how to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

Thanks,

I also use openSUSE 11.3

You can extract Pagestream anywhere (I like to create a directory to extract
into because sometimes programs extract directly into the working directory
spreading files everywhere), then move the Pagestream folder wherever you
like.

I extracted in my users home folder, then as root moved the contents to
"/opt/pgs/" (If you prefer tou could move it to "/opt/Pagestream/" or
"/home/YourName/PageStream/" whatever suits you)

It sounds like the install directions may no longer be correct. Inside my
"/opt/pgs/" directory is a bash script named
"/opt/pgs/Run-Pagestream5".

This script automatically makes sure that the proper paths are configured for
you. You can open this script (or a copy of it) with any text editor to see
that it is doing the same things described in the install directions.

Once you have moved the Pagestream directory to the location you like (lets
assume /home/YourName/Pagestream/ ), All you have to do is create a new menu
item or desktop link to the
/home/YourName/Pagestream/Run-Pagestream5
script (or run it from a terminal)

for example at the shell prompt (#) type
# /home/YourName/Pagestream/Run-Pagestream5
(# is the shell prompt, don't type that) and the program should start.

hope this is clear. I no longer have any reference to Pagestream in my
~/.bashrc or /etc/ld.so.conf files.

One thing I have run into is that Pagestream does not always play friendly
with some gtk themes when run in a KDE environment. I have had the best luck
using the "Industrial" theme in both Gnomes configuration and KDE's gtk
configuration.

Included below is the contents of the Run-Pagestream5 file so you can see
what it is doing

#!/bin/bash
export PGSPATH=`dirname "$0"`
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$PGSPATH/SoftLogik/lib
export PATH=$PATH:$PGSPATH
$PGSPATH/PageStream5
exit 0

Hope this helps
dh

PYTHONLIBRARY (library file name) (apiversion, 1013 should be correct)

I just added a pair of pref items where you can navigate and select the
python library and the api version. Leave api blank for the default api
version. This is only needed if PageStream can't find the python library
or if you have multiple versions installed and you want to force
PageStream to use a specific api or library.

David,

Thanks. Will try it. Would this be why, when I upen certain menus, my
cursor pointer disappears and I have to navigate using the arrow keys?

I assume you are talking about the gtk themes not playing nicely with KDE,
if so that might have been one of the issues, I pretty much stick w/ the
gnome/gtk industrial theme as I find it not terribly offensive and it has been
reliable. Of course if you like the gnome desktop then you can pretty much
choose the theme you like.

If you run the "Run-Pagestream5" script inside a term window the errors
related to missing theme elements will show up quite nicely.

good luck, see ya.

I added the line

PYTHONLIBRARY /usr/lib/libpython2.6.so.1

to the prefs file. No success!
Maybe I did this not in the right way.

Question: When will your new version be available?

If that is the correct location of the library, all you need to do is
append 1013. The line should read:

PYTHONLIBRARY /usr/lib/libpython2.6.so.1 1013

Probably today. I archived up everything late last night.
