sounds like you have an image with an alpha channel (transparency) in it.

there is a lot that pagestream doesnt handle them well. needs much updating in area.

I'll check that, thanks, it just happened with another document I had made
.pdf with before, I had added a .jpg, thought that was it, tried without
.jpg, still not working
....

That did it, changed the .png to .jpg and PDF save works again
