I just have a few questions:

1. Is there a picture box feature in PageStream 4 like there is in Quark Xpress? In the way that you just pull out a box and then import a picture, being able to move it around and resize it freely without having to mess up the rest of the document in the terms of symmetry. Having worked with Quark a bit (but still preferring PageStream) it is a feature I would love to see incorporated into PageStream. Is this possible at all? Or does already exist? I find so useful when I'm able to layout the document before getting the pictures and also enabling me to switch pictures without having to run it though a image editor to crop it. How do I get around this problem?

2. Will there be many more filters for the Windows version of PageStream? JPEG, and Word filters are very important to have since these are pretty much market standards. It would also be nice with a Quark Xpress filter to transfer my old work without having to redesign it.

By the way, printing on my Epson Stylus Color 500 seems to work fine, although I have only tried it once (with text and image in same document).

3. Will the menu layout change? I think there is a bit too many sub menus a bit slow finding certain options. Better to put them as their own menus. There's enough space for it.

4. Are there going to be right-click menus when clicking on objects and text?

5. How compatible will it be if one is using two monitors, extending the desktop using AGP? As it is now one has to start up PageStream twice to use on each monitor, but there is no way of dragging and dropping between them. Is there? It would be nice to be able to use one monitor as the 'clipboard' to store object whilst laying out on the other so not to clutter the workspace.

We are all greatly looking forward to PageStream for Windows, but when will it come around? No worries though, I can wait longer, when the result is worth it.

Yours faithfully,

Don't forget that it is SoftLogik.com (with a 'k' not a 'c')

Kind of. We don't have the same concept of frames so it doesn't work
exactly the same. However, we have scripts on the Amiga (which we will get
ported to Windows once we get the scripting system finished) which you can
draw a frame and another which you can import a picture into a selected
picture frame (even replacing one that already exists).

By default pictures in PageStream have no frame, but once you crop them
(using the crop tool) they can then be moved around inside the frame like
in quark using the crop tool.

Without the external scripts:
You can create an empty picture frame using the script command DRAWPICTURE
POSITION left top right bottom. You can create a script with the script
palette that has just that (replacing the left top right bottom with 4
numbers).

You can select a picture using the Object Information requester.

JPEG is just waiting to get compiled. It will be included. If you can find
me the file format for Word, I would _love_ to do a filter for it. Same for
any other file format on Windows!

Quark Xpress and PageMaker are possible, just low down on the list. We
started working on them years ago, but they are a tough nut to crack. I do
hope to crack that nut however Smile

Which suboptions are you talking about? I don't anticipate a menu layout
change. However, I am alway open to suggestions.

Not in this release.

Not in 4.0. I'll keep it in mind.

Actually, it would be softlogik.com. support@softlogik.com. I know it is
still working because I am still getting email from that account!

Can anyone tell me if it is intended to support non-postscritp printers
with the Windows version of PGS4.
If not, then I have been wasting my time with it as I only use Ink-jets. eg
Canon BJC620 and BJC 6500.

I notice with alarm that the only mention of non postscript printers in the
help files, are for Mac and AMIGA computers.

All my other PC programs allow me to print with either.

Perhaps this is just another Bug?

Steve

Steven,

my BJC 6000 prints nice here, I suspect your BJC 620 and 6500 should too. Look for new drivers on the Canon site, these may help.

Hullo Lieven,

Thanks for the info. but my BJC620 works OK with the earlier b10 version.
Also I have already got the latest driver. The program does not get as far
as the printer but puts up a
postscript requestor and, as I do not have a postscript printer, it will go
no farther.

Also I notice that the Object fill patterns do not show on screen; neither
do they print out on the earler version.

Deron still has a way to go yet.

Regards,

Steve

Hi there!

Does anyone else have trouble with latest PGS4.0.6 and printing to non
postscript.
I have downloaded the program three times but each time it will not print
to my Canon BJC620 printer.
The previous version did but this one just gives a postscript error and
leaves the program.

Any suggestions welcome.

Also I cannot use the pattern fills. The screen ignores them.

Getting desperate,

Steve

Hi all
I've no luck printing with HP Laserjet 4L either. Just a slight pause
and then putsout a blank page.
Is there anybody that can print with it ?
The same setup using the UAE emulator and PgsAmi4 prints slow but OK
Thanks Graeme

I don't get any kind of postscript request or error message, but rev 6
does NOT give me any printing to my Canon 8000. After sending the print
command, the program just sits there doing nothing. No lock or crash,
just no printing, either. Beta 10 passed along some printing, although
there were problems with font size inaccuracies, etc. Maybe it's
something to do with Canon Windoze printer drivers??

Yes, PageStream Windows can print to non-PostScript! I just printed to my
Epson Stylus 600 with PgS Win.

The reason? At this time we don't have any tips yet for it!

Some people are unable to print (they get blank pages.) That _is_ a bug. We
havn't been able to find a pattern.

Hi Deron

The main problem was with the printer driver.
Although it worked fine for the other progs. It refused to do so with PGS4,
I downkoaded the latest driver from Canon. Now OK.

Since I don't much about computers, perhaps this isn't important:

In my print order dialog box, it says: print blank pages? I put in "no", and it doesn't.

Also, the preferences isn't "sticky" so I have to remember that is I want color, I have to adjust the PGS-Printer interface to support it each time I want it.
