Dave,
Again, thanks for your thoughts ... I have had a look at the BIOS settings for each computer ... the old Compaq has a "PhoenixBios" setup, and my new one has an "AwardBios" setup based around an Asustek P3B-F motherboard. To my untrained eyes, they seem vastly different ... very few of the sub-headings matched, but where they did the settings were the same. I tried downloading the latest BIOS from Asustek, installing that, and resetting to the defaults ... again, I could not get PS to launch ... I have it going on the old computer, so I am able to look at the latest beta there. I think it will be easiest to wait until Deron releases a further beta, and see if my current problem is somehow corrected, before sending my machine for professional help. I have had no problems loading any other software, so I would like to believe this fault is arising from a programming misadventure at this point, rather than something on my machine. Thanks again!
Wayne.

My ownly guess (since it's working on your old machine, but not the new > one) is to check out all the CMOS BIOS settings on each machine, and see > what may be different. > > Dave
