Just a small follow up, in case others have had
the same problem as I. Adobe ATM needs a .pfb
and .pfm file for each font. I found a dos
utility that batch converts a directory of fonts
and will convert the .afm font metric files to
the .pfm format that Windows wants. (The only
problem I had is that the program converted all
output file names to the old dos 8.3 format, which
gave some duplicate names and made some file not work
until I went in and did some manual work). Now my
fonts are there but not all of them seem to work with
Windows (which is a separate problem).

Great but could you let us know the programme and where to find it?

I spent some time a few days ago converting .pfb files to TrueType fonts
with TypeSmith . I realised I needed the .pfm but could see how to get them.

Many thanks

Hi Sheila,

I don't think that you need a .pfm file to make TT fonts with
Typesmith - it should be able to load the .afm files that
Pagestream uses. Doing those conversions, though, especially
on a slow (compared to a modern PC) Amiga would be very tedious
if you have as many old fonts as I have.

The PC utility I found in verious places is called refont.exe.
There are a lot of copies around on the web. It must be
several years old, though, since it only runs in Dos and
converts everything to 8.3 filename mode. (At least the
copy that I have).

Wait!
I just looked in one of the archives that I downloaded with
refont in it and found the following note:

Refont and Wrefont have been replaced with a 32 bit
(WIn NT/95/9Cool program called CrossFont. It has the
ability to convert TrueType and Type 1 fonts from Mac
to PC and PC to Mac. You can download it from our web
site athttp://www.asy.com

I don't know anything about this (I just used refont and
manually fixed things up) but it looks like it might be
better than what I did.

Happy converting!

Steve

P.S. Now I will probably go and reinstall r7 and wait for
r9 (or r8a?) since r8 can't print right... oh well...

No TypeSmith does not need .pfm files, it is quite happy with the .afm and
.pfb files. I could not get ATM to accept the Type1 fonts from my Amiga
collection that did not have a .pfm file included and I could not find a way
to 'create' them.

Thanks. Been there got CrossFont, created the .pfm file, put it with the
.afm and .pfb files and ATM recognised and installed the font.

I'm going back to my Amiga PGS. I started with Win r6 and worked through r7
and r8 but the Windows 98 (2nd edition) on two machines often c/o that PGS
has performed an illegal action and closes it down and the same thing occurs
when I try to change preferences. I have told Deron what problems were
reported by Windows but I have no reply. And I still cannot access the
extras I paid for when I updated to WindowsPGS.

There now I've had my whinge I'll get back to your little programme and look
into registering so I can do batch conversions.

Thanks again

Regards
Sheila
