 Deron,

First what I see looks very good. Bow my head, or in Dutch: ‘Petje af.’

To write such a program, for different machines!

Are the Amiga, Mac and Windows version 4.08 the same?

I did find ATM (Adobe Type Manager), and it is working, thank you Steve Meloche and Deron. This can be found on www.adobe.com/products/atmlight/main.html. It is free and it only needs some personal information. BTW it’s 12 MB, and with three quarter of this you got PageStream. Amazing, do they program with capitals and Deron with small print???

Also I am able to do a conversion between AFM to PFM for the Adobe fonts, thank you Steve Meloche. This can be found on www.asy.com and it is called Crossfont. It’s a commercial product, but what we need, the former Amiga users, can be done with the demo.

Also Deron suggested me to find a manager for Compugraphic Intelli fonts on the Agfa site. I didn’t find any. Anybody? If there isn’t one, I don’t mind much, because it isn’t developed anymore. What I need, I can convert with TypeSMITH! Only those excessive number of points are a problem. You can reduce them, but sometimes the characters don’t look like the one you started with.

But all betas have problems, so I try to find them.

 1. Start PageStream. Then immediately exit PageStream. Crash.

 2. I wondering how PageStream takes care of Type Styles. For instance in AmiPGS you can say it is bold or whatever. Then it looks and prints bold. In WinPGS it doesn’t look and prints bold if I load that Amidocument.

I have to look for a bold version of that font, say Arial Bold. Is this a problem with the beta?

Or is it a problem with international versions. For instance Arial Bold is Arial Vet in Dutch. Just suggestions.

On the same level, look at the FontSpec.Template which came with the AmiPGS3, or was it AmiPGS2. There you see that some of the Type Styles are not implemented. Also you can see that if you edit in Define Styles and Font Sample another font then NORMAL, BACKSLANT, etc won’t change because of this problem, which I started in 2.

What is strange, at least to me, is that in a PDF document – works! – outlined font work and in PGS not!

Some of the characters are seen as a ÿ. Does that mean they don’t exist in that font? I think yes, but…

 3. I’ve got some fonts more than twice in the Font pop-up menu and in the Paragraph Style. Strangely in the Type/Font menu they only occur once.

 4. I did send you a document with inserting-problems with RTF. There looked, as there was a character, which could be moved around but not deleted.

 > Okay I send you the rtf-text file. It's called Vak00.rtf.

 > It's a trimmed version, and made in Word - windows.

 >

 > Also I send you, to be sure, the template in which I insert this rtf document.

 > It's called Vakantie.NL.Template.

 >

 > Now look at Zaterdag, there seems to be character, but if you zoom in on the text, that

 > character becomes smaller and smaller.

Now I found out that it is not a character, but there are lots of characters on top of each other. And with insisted deleting you can erase them.

 Another problem in PGS4.08a was:

 >>Deron, this document does crash my WinPGS all the time.
>>I deleted everything till the last offending problem the page number.
>>History: It was an AmigaPGS2.2 document, which has been converted to AmigaPGS3.
>>

>I think I have this fixed! At least for me now it works fine!

 Yes you did! It works.

 5. If, for some reason, the document-window becomes under the toolbar it is glued to the toolbar. The document can be saved, but not closed. PGS must be closed. When you minimize the PGS window and then enlarge it again this problem occurs.

 6. Still printing ¼ at low right side of the paper if I printer 360 dpi instead of 720 dpi with the Canon 620 printer. The size of it is good! So it looks again a placing problem.

I have tried at 180 dpi, and it printed all. So just 180 and 720 dpi are good, and only 360 dpi has a problem.

A strange problem is that when AmiPGS on the PC in WinUAE prints a little more on paper. In other words, WinPGS truncates a little.

When a print task is selected and WinPGS has collected all the data, not only the print task pops up, but all the screens in the back of PGS.

 7. BME has still problems. Some of the parts of the graphic are to be seen on the same view.

Not a problem but not implemented yet. I thought that AmiPGS could adjust a document view so, that if selecting actual size for a compact disk document, you can put compact disk paper on screen and it is the same size.

Hey you’ve deleted the DOS-kind window for PGS, yes I noticed. BME not.

I have already translated most my documents for WinPGS and working with this one!

So this must be enough to get you starting again ;>)

Thanks Theo Zweers
