There is no way that can force a reconnection.
The problem is they probably have the email format set as HTML, not plain ascii. So it tries and sticks a reference to a graphic located on a server somewhere, which it tries to download from that server when they view the email.
Solution? Set your preferences to not automatically connect, or better yet turn your egroups email settings to plain ascii.
