Hi!

Just uploaded a new version (actually, part this morning, the rest just
finished) which should fix the crash on startup that several folks have
had, and some display issues with window placement and new bitmap display
code and a few other goodies.

Enjoy!

Yes, I can now load PGS and it shows parts, just graphics (good
colours), from my documents.
There is text, but only if you double-click (CTRL-A doesn't work), but
it doesn't show.

I can see that the interface have changed, that looks good.

Yes, another (Frank) had reported no text displayed, but I need a bit more
info. Hopefully more will chime in one way or another. As you can imagine,
text works here. That always makes it difficult to fix.

Duh. I'm sure this is the problem: One of the things I now examine is a few
registry entries. Perhaps those who do not get text in the new PageStream
beta can run regedit and tell me if you can find the location of the files:

HKEY_USERS\\.DEFAULT\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Shell
Folders (key:Fonts which contains the folder where system fonts are installed)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Fonts
should contain all the installed fonts and their filenames.

Yes, many keyboard shortcuts are not working yet.

Thanks Frank,

The font files I was taking about before are not actual directories, but
entried in the system registry. If you could, choose Run from the Start
menu, and type regedit in the box that comes up. Then the registry editor
should open up. Inside that, you should have the option to "Export Registry
File". Do that (saving "all registries"), and save out a file. If you could
then email that file to me, I think I should be at the bottom of this
missing font madness.

Anyone else who doesn't have text displaying, if you could do the same I
would appreciate it.

Hi,

On my Windows 2000 system, there is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\Fonts
with all the fonts installed (not "Windows", but "Windows NT"). But I did
not test the beta version, so I can't tell if text is displayed here. And I
noticed that some values are complete paths, not just file names!

Ralf

It's D:Windows/Fonts, which is the place for my fonts!
I use Windows XP Pro SP 1.

No such directory on my machine. Maybe for another Windows version?

I changed the font I use in a document from Garamond in Arial, and still
no display of text.
Only double click the place where text should be is blackend out.

I did as you suggested - two times.
The first time the file generatet had 1 KB. It was, I suppose, only one
branch of my registry.
The second time I did it with the 'home-branch' of my registry. The
generated file had 76 MB, not possible to send via email.
Give me a tip.

Hi,
Downloaded, try it out and these are my initial findings:
- It crashes if use my Pagestream4.ini file
- It runs if I don't use my Pagestream4.ini file
- No fonts are visible in the document but I can see them listed in the
Edit Palette and pulldown menus
- Graphics are visible
- The first time using a tool, it only drags out a bit (can only draw a
short line, small box, small text column etc), after that the
tool works as expected. This happens for each tool.
- in Pref menu, when changing colours, there are only adjustments for
Blue and Green, Red has no control and you can't type in the values.
- Program crashes when I have a document open and I open the Layers
Palette.
- Icons are black silhouettes on white field on grey buttons
- Some of the Menus can't be closed with out resellecting them from the
pulldown (ie Spellcheck, Lookup Word, Find Change)
- BME does not work

I can't run Regedit on my machine, the file has been locked by the
administrators.

Thanks for the info!

That is what a couple registries sent to me had indicated also. I've
uploaded a new version which should work with this as well.

Just hang on. I have uploaded a new version which may fix the problem after
looking at the files that have been sent in so far. You can download just
the displaylibrary from the standard release download page, which is all
that is really new.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll take a crack at these for the next release.

I probably don't need your registry now. Try downloading the
SoftLogikDisplayLibrary update and see if fonts display for you.

Deron,

Fonts display here (german Windows 2000) with the May 19 version, although,
as already said, they sometimes look a bit strange.

- PDF export of documents with double-sided / facing pages puts
the elements of the right master page to the left. This problem
was already solved in an earlier version of PGS for Windows and
is not present in v4.1.5.7.
- PDF export of text in e.g. "Arial Fett" (which is german for
"Arial Bold") works now.
- Applying "Bold" to "Arial" produces characters that are thinner than
characters in "Arial Fett". And applying "Bold" to "Arial Fett" seems
to increase the thickness of the characters. Maybe as a consequence,
PDF export of text in Arial with "Bold" applied produces "normal"
Arial in the PDF file.
- Overwriting a file with "Save as PDF..." produces two dialogs -
obviously one from Windows and one from PGS.
- Bolded text can't be reverted to normal by clicking "B" a second time.

Ralf

Sad This (and previous PageStream4.1.6.23) doesn't show any text in
documents. I load my document from 4.1.5.8 and I see only graphic not
text. I can't write and load any text in Pagestream.
Version 4.1.5.8 work good with text - I can see and load text in
documents.
