Hi,

After two long days of attempted uploads, all the updates are online now
for PageStream4.1.6.26 (plus the Pro version as well). Fixed problem with
prefs, some new shortcuts and numerous bugs and layout issues resolved.

Thanks for the feedback so far, and enjoy!

Report -
AMD Athlon, Windows XP Professional, etc...

Loaded and ran, loaded some existing files. All text seemed to be
blank still.

Made a new document, tryed many different fonts, found that some
worked after all (about 5% of my fonts will render to the screen). I
could find no particular rhyme or reason for one font or another
working. All of the ones that I looked at were truetype, but a lot of
TTF fonts did not work either.

Other problems:
Two old bugs are back - the "drawing frames for the first time loses
focus and draws tiny object" bug, and also the "window trashes the
tool bar" bug.

When "show column outline" is activated it is a solid line instead of
dotted.

It stops responding for a LONG time when I try to do anything with a
border (including rendering one to screen).

Coolness:
I really like the new font preview window. I have wanted something
like that for a long time. Now if all fonts worked I would be ready
to switch, just for the font previews!

Ah, this is good news! I've been beating my head trying to figure out why
text doesn't work for you, but I would be looking in the wrong place if it
works for some! I'll try and get something together soon.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hi,

Here are my findings:
- No "venetian blind" anymore.
- Preferences and font substitution lists are saved now.
- Fonts look much better, though still not perfect (e.g. parts of a
"g" in Times New Roman are missing at large magnifications, "fr"
looks strange, ...).
- Selecting a word by moving the mouse does not result in a "black block",
but there are small white lines between characters. When deselecting, the
white line get black lines. When selecting a word with double-clicking
results in a "black block".
- The "page back" icon is not drwan in the beginning, and it always
disappears when switching from page 1 to page 2.
- Switching between document windows with CTRL+TAB does not work
completely, e.g. "Save as PDF" does not use the current document,
but the previous one.
- Using TAB to navigate in dialogs does not work.
- When there are several "pages" (tabs?) in a dialog, the dialog
"window" only enlarges, never shrinks.
Also, the dialog "Text Frame Options" shows additional fields
when selecting "Custom Widths". These fields are not removed when
it is deselected.
- Why do I get a "Font substitution" dialog when I just paste text
(that does not use the fonts presented in the dialog)? I admit,
I did not "remember" all substitutions for the document, but ...
- In the "Font substitution" dialog, the "remember sign" of the selected
font is not inverted and thus hard to recognize.
- "F10" does not work. And I also prefer to use "F5" for refresh
in Windows, which seems to be a quasi-standard there.
- Leaving dialogs with ESC seems to work for system dialogs only.
- The "Open" dialog still appears behind the ?toolbox?.
- ReadMe.Windows does not use DOS linebreaks, so it is hard to read
in Notepad.
- Should printing work? I did not try, but the dialog still looks
a bit strange.
- There is sill a menu item "File | System Preferences", but it only
contains inactive items. Is this the way it should be?
- I can confirm that "Double sided/facing pages masterpages doesn't
generate PDF properly" is still true for me.
- As noted in ReadMe.Windows, boldening and italicizing does not work
(at least not for all fonts).

- BME stops working when a graphics file (JPG) is loaded or a
new graphic is created.
- Many more ...

Regards,
Ralf

Still can't get text to show up with ANY font in 4.1.6.26, not even a meagre

But there's something almost right. Hadn't tested this before, but using
both framed (text box) and frameless text even though I can't see it
(assuming that it is there and treating it as such) and then saving the pgs
file, then opening in 4.1.5.8 shows that the text IS there, just not
showing.
But you knew that anyway, Deron...

I wish, I wish, I wish this worked or a reason would show up. It love the
next font preview dialogue, although it doesn't yet show fonts for me.
Pleased to see that locking an object works everytime now.
I've not had time to properly test other parts of 41626 but it's generally
looking good.

Great!

Yes, the hinting is a bit strange with FreeType (the render engine I'm
using). I have a solution that I am going to implement in the next release.
Done. (magnification is much better now, but the hinting is still off for
small text. I may need to rebuild the freetype engine, but for now it is
good enough to move on).

Yes, one pixel off in the dimensions. I'd forgotten it. Fixed in the next
release.

I don't think it should shrink, it would be very annoying as it bounced
between different sizes, in fact it should start at a size needed for the
largest.

They should just be disabled, not hidden. Works ok here.

When you copy/paste, it also copies style tags. These may use fonts that
are not available.

Fixed.

F10 has always been a problem on Windows. I forget which, but some system
function uses it also. You have to disable that function before F10 works
in an application.

I never noticed, I use a real text editor Smile Fixed.

It is hit or miss here. I have been working on it this weekend. Should be
fixed in next release.

>- There is sill a menu item "File | System Preferences", but it only

For now, yes. We use a single rsc format now for all the platforms, and the
Amiga has these items for setting font paths and some screen prefs. I may
move these into prefs instead and take it out but for now it is just hiding
there.

I had started converting BME over to the new libraries and never did
finish. Thanks for the reminder.

Fixed, but disable/selection of icons.

Here it starts with the size needed for the first one active.

Here they are not drawn when the dialog first comes up
(given that "Custom Widths" is disabled then).
So why not show them in the disabled state at the first appearance?

BTW - when right clicking somewhere I expect the object under the cursor
to be activated. Right now, the previously selected object stays active
and all actions started with the context menu apply there. So if I select
one text frame, right click on a different text frame and do some changes
to the text frame using the context menu, the first text frame is changed.
