The only font that displays is gill sans, gill sans bold & gill sans
italic. All are true type fonts. All other TT fonts do not display,
though they are listed in the font menu.

But here is the good part. I can't highlight the text in the non
displaying areas, but if I use the eyedropper and click on an area of
non displaying text (after loading from the displayed part), the text in
that area will appear.

I don't think I'm following you. No, forget that. I think I do. You're
loading the eyedropper inside one of Gill font areas that display on
your system and then using the tool in a nondisplaying text area, right?
So you're changing the hidden text to one of the displaying Gill fonts?

The eyedropper does nothing on my system, but I don't have any fonts
that display. Based on your experiments, is that the behavior you'd expect?
