Hi,

I've just uploaded a new set of libraries at
http://www.grasshopperllc.com/Secure/Windows/TestLibraries7-14.zip

This is for any 4.1.6 or 5.0 (including Pro and Demo) installation for
folks who are having troubles with fonts not displaying. Just decompress
this archive over the existing libraries in the PageStream folder.
Improvements for Type1 and TrueType.

However, if you were having problems and still are, then you can help crush
this by putting a line in the UserPrefs/PageStream4.ini or
UserPrefs/PageStream5.ini (as appropriate) that simply says:

DEBUG

on the new line (just stick it at the end, or anywhere else except in the
first line). Then simply run and then quit from PageStream. This will cause
the display library to create a text file called DisplayDebug.txt in the
PageStream folder. If you could then email me this file at
support@grasshopperllc.com it should tell me what it is and is not finding.
Thanks!

Hi!

Is there anything in it to remedy my print problem.
Missing parts in 5 Pro (Windows) printouts.
The same docs print correctly in 4.1.5.8

Deron:

Just downloaded the fixes. I've only played for a few minutes, so I
can't say anything definitive. However, most fonts now display. There
are two in the document I looked at which do not, both Postscript. I
looked in the fonts directory and both have the arrow symbol indicating
a shortcut. The actual fonts are probably in the old Adobe ATM directory
which I don't need in XP. So, at first glance, it appears PageStream can
only find fonts in the main Windows font directory. I'll try to
investigate this further later on today.

I was unable to print anything. The dialog appears, I can select a
printer with printer setup, but nothing happens after I click Print.

After I've gone further with my experiments, I'll use the debug
procedure and forward the file.

Interface looks good. You seem to be getting there.

Ah, but that was yesterday. Today everything prints fine to either my HP
1220 or Epson R300. No special settings were needed. Go figure.

Hi Deron,
Just got back from my holidays. Tried out the new Beta (4.1.6.30) and here
are the results of my quick tests.
- ttf show up
- type 1 fonts don't show (located in c:\PSfonts and use ATM Lite)
- save as pdf works but it also causes PGS to crash
- in the "Edit Palette" Lock/Unlock, Print/Don't Print, Aspect buttons
don't toggle. (ie. can turn them on but not off)
- I still cannot print shapped fills (prints solid black)
- EPS files (Picture saved as eps No Preview and printed Great with Amiga
and PGS 3.4) will not print.

If you use find file, can you find any files that start with AdobeFnt?

If not, do you have the file c:\windows\atm.ini ??

Does it always happen for you? It appears to work without crashing here.

Verified (someone else just reported/reminded me as well Smile

Is this to a postscript printer? If you print to disk using the new print
to disk in print setup, does that file print properly when downloaded to
the printer?

I'm curious as to what you're looking for exactly. I have the same issue
here. I just did a search on my computer (Dell 933r, Pentium 3 with
Windows XP Home). I turned up 23 files named AdobeFnt*.lst ranging in
size from 1KB to 110 KB. Some list only True Type fonts, others only
Type 1 fonts and (possibly) some both. One is a shortcut. Would it be
useful to see the particulars? If so, what particulars? I presume you're
not looking for files with only True Type fonts. Do you need files in
specific directories? How may we help?

I might add that I've found at least one other application (a CD label
maker from Epson) that also appears not to handle the fonts which the
Beta can't display. However, in this case, the fonts don't show up in
the font list.

As an aside, the Wonderful World of Adobe certainly seems to be an
arcane one. Other companies make programs much more proficient at
handling their developments at much less money. I'm just getting ready
to ditch their PhotoShop Album program because, among other things,
after transferring a zillion gigabytes of images to CD and supposedly
"deleting" them from the hard drive, it actually sent the deletions to
the waste can, overflowed the partition, and left my C drive so
fragmented I had to repartition it before defragmenting it. From the
credits, it appears it took about twenty programmers to come up with
this ingenious creation. Are their font applications as kludgey as that,
I wonder.

Did you send me a DisplayDebug.txt file and a copy of your registry? That
will help tell me what PageStream _is_ finding and what _can_ be found
(well, most of it Smile

I can do that, as I know what fonts I can not find location info for, but I
would rather folks tell me about the missing fonts so I can figure out why!

I would have to agree. What I am trying to do is parse the cached
information that ATM keeps so that I don't have to scan your hard drive at
start up each time (very inefficient) or keep my own cache (extra
unnecessary interface etc.)

I have a number of files called AdobeFnt.???
- c:\corel40\symbols\AdobeFnt.lst
- c:\Program files\adobe\acrobat5.0\resource\cmap\AdobeFnt.lst
- c:\Program files\adobe\acrobat5.0\resource\font\AdobeFnt.lst
- c:\Program files\adobe\Illustrator 9.0\required\fonts\AdobeFnt.lst
- c:\Program files\common files\adobe\fonts\AdobeFnt.lst
- c:\Program files\common files\adobe\fonts\Reqrd\base\AdobeFnt.lst
- c:\Program files\common files\adobe\fonts\Reqrd\Cmaps\AdobeFnt.lst
- c:\Program files\common files\adobe\TypeSpt\AdobeFnt.lst
- c:\Program files\common files\adobe\TypeSpt\AdobeFnt.db
- c:\PSFonts\AdobeFnt.lst
- c:\WINNT\Fonts\AdobeFnt.lst
- c:\WINNT\System32\AdobeFnt.lst

I do not have a C:\windows directory, instead, we use C:\winnt. This maybe
because all our computers were NT boxes and I changed to Win2000 (I did
not install the OS, our IT guys did) and had to be compatable with our NT
Network (100's of computers)

A specific file causes PGS to crash. Its my tester file with eps images,
and various text fills, and shape fills. I can send it if you like.

I use PS printers/printer drivers. I have never been able to print shaped
fills or the Image EPS files with PGS for windows, I've always had to go
back to PGS 3.4 for amiga to print those files.

With the New Printer GUI, I can print to file or print to my PS printer
etc. but only when I use "Windows" in the Print set up and select one of my
system printers. If I use "Print File" in the printer setup and EPS or
Print to File, the GUI disappears and nothing happens.

No, but I will. However, what registry are we talking about? Regedit
finds tons of them. The only ones I see that might be PageStream related
(as I recall) are in a Grasshopper directory and there doesn't appear to
be anything in them. I'm not a programmer, so I'm not used to digging
for this kind of exotica. Any help from anyone on how I do this would be
appreciated.

Agreed. The comment was just meant as a side remark. I should have made
it clear.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I saw your post on the main list and
wondered why I didn't have any info from you. Now I know why Smile

OK. Choose run from the Windows Start menu. Type in regedit. From inside
regedit. choose export registry. Save as HenryBelotsRegistry.txt or some
such, compress it with zip, and email it to me.

Info on generating a DisplayDebug.txt file has already been posted, you
should have that.

Several in
"C:\Programme\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0" and
"C:\Programme\Gemeinsame Dateien\Adobe\Fonts",
but none of them contains the latest fonts I installed.

> If not, do you have the file c:\windows\atm.ini ??

No, but C:\WINNT\atmreg.atm. It contains all the Type 1 Fonts I installed.

And there is even a registry entry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\
Type 1 Installer\Type 1 Fonts

Great, yet another kind of installation!

Can you email me this file atmreg.atm, and this registry entry you are
talking about contains what? C:\WINNT\atmreg.atm ???

Thanks!

Deron:

I just went looking for this:

> ...if you were having problems and still are, then you can help crush
> this by putting a line in the UserPrefs/PageStream4.ini or
> UserPrefs/PageStream5.ini (as appropriate) that simply says:
>
> DEBUG...

As you can see, I found it. In an email dated July 14. Nowhere else. Not
on the web page and not in the readme texts. Shouldn't it be in one or
more of those places? I'm just glad I saved the original message. I
thought I remembered what to do, but with my luck I'd have made "DEBUG"
the first line of the file.
