Can anyone / will anyone tell me what Alpha blending is, please.

Ignorantly yours,

Didn't you ask this before? I'm surprised no one's answered you. I
didn't because I thought someone else would have a better answer. Here's
the best I can do.

You know those supers on TV where they have a name inside a gray or
colored box and the box, instead of being cut out of the picture with
hard edges, is semitransparent so you see some of the background behind
it? That's alpha blending. "Alpha," as I understand it, is the grayscale
section of the image. Blending let's you mix that part of the image with
another image in varying degrees to achieve a soft transition between them.

Thanks Henry.

Now I understand: I think!

I'm not sure _Alpha_ blending is the right word. It is simple the ability
to blend objects together. So a box can be transparent, not just opaque,
for example.

Thanks Deron,

I'll go and have a bash at it.
Anything for a laugh!

OK; I give up. How do I do it! (Alpha blending that is.)

I drew a box. Then some frameless text. Put the text inside the box.
I could move the text backward and forward, but no transparency.
I'm in my second childhood, so the explanations need to be as simple
as possible if not simpler.

If you want the fill of the box to show through the frameless text, just
select the text in object mode and press 'L' to get the Line/Fill
requester. Make sure both the Line and Fill check boxes are completely
unchecked. That will make the text appear to 'float' on the box.

If this is not what you meant, can you clarify what you are after a
little better?

Hi! Don,

I'm so sorry to trouble you, but I have done what you say and I can't see
any difference between PGS5.Pro and PGS 4.1.5.8. The text just appears to
lay on the top of the box as always.

Perhaps you would send me an appended page to show me what to expect.
Direct to me at mossbury@btinternet.com. I would be most grateful.

In this case, he would then need to hilight the text, and choose type->line
& fill. In the fill panel, send blend to opacity, and give it a number say 50%
