I am still not happy with the characters onscreen.
As if the character-line is formed as a landscape with small hills.
The characters seem to have different heights.

But what mist annoying is that I can't see a difference between normal
(plain) character and a bold one.
Only the B in the edit palette shows that is bold, with the document
shown at full width (150 %).
Even a larger show doesn't reveal the boldness of the characters.

What font are you using? Is it a serif or sans-serif? For serif I use
Baskerville a lot for my stuff. It does not appear quite right on
screen, but it prints beautifully. The Bold version does display better
on screen than the bold version of some fonts.

I believe Deron will be working on the display later as he is trying to
get some more serious problems taken care of. We all have to be just a
bit flexible for a while and I am sure the result will be spectacular. Smile)

Just Arial, the most common font.
And maybe I'm to hasty...

The only issue I've seen is with some characters being places a pixel too
high (or the other are a pixel to low). Is that what you mean?

For Arial (which you say doesn't work) this works for me. If you choose the
Arial Bold font does that display correctly?

Do any fonts work with applied bold style for you?

I haven't checked this in a Beta version lately so the comment may not
be valid, but I have the same problem with Arial in the prebeta version
on Windows XP (1152 x 864 pixels). Selecting the bold font directly does
display correctly. A few other fonts have the same or similar problems
(don't remember which). I have to zoom in really tight to be sure bold
is working and if a few cases even then it's hard to be sure.

Probably, yes. If the enlargement is big enough this disappears. But at
full width, it looks like a cakewalk.
(Maybe that's the reason why text in PGS 5 takes more space then PGS 4.
It's small, but in a document
can it do with one extra line. One character to width on a line, so the
word (or a part of that word) goes
to another line, and so on.)

Yes, then it's correct. So the Arial font which I made bold with edit
palette isn't showing bold.
If, however I make it Arial vet (vet is bold in Dutch) then...
Well, I'll be ... There isn't an Arial vet anymore.

I open PGS 4.1.5.8 to look for Arial vet, and there it is.
Arial cursief (Italic) is gone, and also Arial vet cursief (bold italic)
is gone in PGS 5.0.1.33.
All the Arial special and Arial Narrow special are there.

If you want that more extensively, I will give you that.

So it hasn't anything to do with bold, PGS 5 doesn't see all the fonts
available.
The Arials came with Windows, and the extra Arials came with Office (I
think).

(BTW: I opened PGS 4 and PGS 5 side by side, both style and font are
reversed in place.
Nothing much, but I opened both, and hitting the wrong one (Font became
Style, visa versa).)

Yes, I changed the style of that document to Garamond, and PGS 5 shows
a bold character.
For this one it works...

Ah, that is the problem. It can't join them up because Windows will often
report the wrong names to me instead of giving me the unlocalized name.

Anyway, can you test the attached display library and see if it fixes the
problem for you?
