Hi Deron,
- draw a single line that crosses itself, the parts of the line that
intersect create a hole (ie. are transperant). It does this for lines
drawn with the pen, freehand, and polygon tools.

I believe I saw something similar - it looked like an arrow at the end
of a line was XOR'ed with the line - in other words, there was a hole
where they overlapped.

Hi Deron,
- >File>Insert Text> hangs up PGS after accepting the text file and its
parameters
- Small caps do not print properly using "Printer File" or "Save As
PDF", letters are missimg. Printing to file with Windows ps printer works.
- Arrowheads on lines show properly on screen but extend before and
after the line when printed with "Printer File" . Windows prints them OK
- PGS loses focus when using the Print GUI if you go from the Setup GUI
back to the Print GUI
- signature printing of landscaped documents still don't print
correctly, ie PGS take 8.5x11 pages and orients them to print 8.5x22 on
11x17 paper

- custom screens and fills do not print correctly. When using Windows
Printing ("To file" using a PS printer), it takes a long time to print
and shaped fills print like radial fills. When using "Printer File" the
shaped fills are correct but I get the following error message from
Distiller when I change the type of screen from default to dot
-
get this error

From 35->36 lines seemed to get worse - entire lines vanish (though
they are still there). I tried to characterize the problem and got
the following results:

I drew a curvy line with splines in it: Okay so far.
Set the line weight to 4 points: Okay.
Add an "arrow 1" to end: lines becomes invisible.
Put rounded end on start of line: only semicircle of the cap shows.

[lots of other experiments later...]

It looks like just about anything will work at the start of the line,
but if anything but "flat" is chosen for the end of the line
everything disappears but whatever has been tacked on the the start of
the line.

I can reproduce poor arrow placement, but it always boils down to short
line segments. If you are using the freehand tool to draw a squiggly line,
it most likely has some zig/zag of sorts at the end. Use the magnify glass
and reshape mode to see what I am talking about. In effect, you are asking
for a 1/4 inch arrow on the end of a 1/8 inch line. Hard to make it fit Smile

I can cause the arrow to "eat" several parts of the lines, and average them
to determine the direction, but for now, just give it longer line segments Smile

The lines I drew were with the pen tool, *not* the freehand drawing
tool. The curved line was several inches long, so that is not the problem.

I believe, however, that I can provide one more bit of data:

When I draw a spline and I then go to the reshape tool I see something
interesting. If I select the point where the spline started, there is
a dotted line and the point which guides the spline curve (the curve
handle). When I select the terminal point of the spline I see no
curve handle! Evidently Pagestream leaves the second point at zero
distance from the point when the spline is the last part of the path
that I draw. I *can* drag it out (subsequently changing the shape of
the curve) and then I found that the line won't disappear if I put an
arrow there.

SO... it appears that the line segment is not short, but the curve
handle is too close to the endpoint. This appears to be a by-product
of drawing a spline as the last segment of a path.

Hope this helps,
Steve

Not only Insert Text hangs up the program, but also pasting text from
another program. That makes PGS completely useless for the way I use
the program most of the time. I have PGS 5.0.1.36 Pro.

Not over here! Both of them work...
I tried with text I copied from Word and insert it. No problem.

Can you be more precise. So Deron, or anybody, can reproduce it.
So what Windows version you use, from which program you are trying to
insert in PGS.
Do you have enough memory?

Trond

I know that it is frustrating for you, but like Theo, my set up works fine.
I have:-

Dell Dimension 8400
Pentium 4 - 3.2 GHz
Windows XP Home - SR2
4 GigByte RAM
150 GByte HD in PC
120 GByte HD external on USB
HP Business inkjet 1100D printer

Weird...
Been having the same problems as Trond.
Tried to insert plain text via File | Insert Text | and it hangs completely.
Every time. Completely reproducible.

But here's some news... Tried copying from Word via the clipboard (my usual
route) and no problem.

Tried File | Insert Text and inserting a plain text file BUT changing the
Character Set from its default plain "Windows" to any other set "Windows
CP1250 EE" for example and it works.
Ditto most other Character Sets (haven't tried them all) work.

So is it something to do with that default "Windows" (unspecified??)
Character Set??

This hanging is in PGS Windows 4.1.6.36 pro and 5.0.1.36 Demo
All works fine in 4.1.5.8

All on a Pentium 3 667 Mhz running Windows 2000 SP4 in 384Mb RAM (guess who
didn't get a new machine for xmas?? boo hoo...)

I have Windows 98SE. Maybe that is the problem. I just tried it on
Windows XP, and that was no problem.

No, Trond. I started from the deepest of my pc Windows 98 SE.
The same problems as Mike Allen reported.
So what did you do different in XP than with 98SE?

In short:
Insert text from the menu hangs PGS.
Only if you change charcter set to anything but windows: it works.
Copy from Windows Word (ctrl-c) and pasting (ctrl-v) it in PGS. works.
