Deron, you have discovered a long around bug with arrows. With 5.0.1.35
you changed this to the correct length.

Now I have troubles with printing to Acrobat PDFWriter, as I already had
written to you. What comes out is a bitmap in a pdf-file. So, no text.
Now I am looking for a way to get ’normal’ pdf-files again. Now I change
in Printer Setup… to <Print File>, send to PostScript File. I choose a
PPD and make a file.ps.

Now I change the file.ps with Acrobat Distiller to file.pdf. So far, so
good.

BUT the arrows are longer then the original in PGS. Is this a hangover
from the old arrow-bug?
Please don’t bring the old arrow-bug in PGS again (I changed about a
hundred ilus!).

Is there a better way to make pdf.files. The PGS-way doesn’t do this
right (missing bold / italic, and so on).

How do I create PDF Files from PGS?
Every and any way I can.
-I use "Windows" to print a .PS file. I have installed a number of PS
printers on my Windows machine, all of these are set to Print to File. I
have found that the Generic Adobe PPD doesn't always output good .PS
files. Also with the newer version of PGS, I am having problems with the
HP ppd's output. Then I convert This PS file to PDF with Distiller or
GhostScript.
- I use "Printer File" to print to a .PS file. I have a wide variety of
PPDs to Print To File through PagseStream. Then I convert These PS files
to PDF with Distiller or GhostScript.
- I also use "Export as PDF" from PageStream. Then reprint these files
with Acrobat though one of the Windows "print to File" PS printers and
then reconvert that ps file back to a PDF with Adobe Distiller or
GhostScript.

For your Arrowheads
-- Arrowheads on lines show properly on screen but extend before and
after the line when printed with "Printer File". If you use "Windows" to
print them to file, the are OK. But the Windows .PS file will take Much
Much Much longer to print than the .PS file create from "Printer File"
(atleast when sent to a PS printer)

As you saw, I did this but then at first sight the arrows on lines pop out.
But I will try it also with your recommended Generic Adobe PPD.

I also did this, and after a half hour it did reach page 6 of 24 pages.
And I will print a pdf-document with 260 pages.

Wow!! Why do you do this?
There are problems with save as pdf in PGS. But then print this, and
reconvert this.
Am I missing the point here?
If it takes too long to explain, say: yes.

Now from version 5.0.1.35 the lines with arrows are correct. So they do
not extend.
And I printed to a bitmap printer. These are correct.
Then I 'print' it to a .ps, convert it to pdf with Distiller, and the
lines with arrows are much longer.

Hangover should be leftover. I didn't read this carefully before
sending. (Deron maybe got an hangover from the Windows version Smile )

And after sending I did export as PDF, and behold: bold is showing.
Ok what I did mean was lines with arrows, which are lines. Colours are
nearby but visible not the right.
And I am not critical, I think.

Thanks for the extended explanation, Paul!

It just another way to get PDF output from PGS.
I was mainly using this method to Embed the fonts into the PDF because
sometimes this is the quickest way to get a small PDF file with embedded
fonts. (the PS output PGS 4.1.58 creates very large PDFs especially if
you use thick outlines. These PS and PDF files can take a long time to
print)
I think that the Print File feature of PGS 4.1.6.??? will probably
reduce the need to use this method)

Yes, the postscript printer driver needs to be updated. I've started the
work, but not complete yet.
