I recently upgraded to a larger hard disk. It is a Seagate and I used
the utility that came with the disk to duplicate my disk contents onto
the new disk. A couple of things needed to be fixed, one of which was
the printer driver for my HP Deskjet 840C. I had an old printer
driver that will not install any more so I had to switch to the newer
one from HP. (The old one was labeled something like
840C/842/etc.etc.etc. while the new one is called "840C series").

The new driver seems to work with everything but Pagestream (sigh...).
The symptom is that printouts from PageStream come out fine except
for pictures, which are missing from the printout. The problem seems
to only affect bitmaps. "Print Pictures" is checked in the print
requestor. Does anyone know what might cause this kind of strange
behavior??

My System:
Athlon 2400+
1 GB RAM
Windows XP Professional
HP DeskJet 840C printer (USB)

Do you have the USB driver from Epson installed. I had to install one
for my 860C. After I installed that it printed pictures like a dream.

Hi Don,

What Epson driver is this that you are speaking of and, well,
why would I want to install an Epson driver for an HP printer?
I have generally found XP to be very comprehensive in its driver
support and, as I said, this problem only affects Pagestream.

Any more information you can provide by way of explanation would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

P.S. Deron, If this is a common problem for Pagestream users and
represents something wrong with Windows XP Professional and not
PageStream itself, maybe the use of this third party driver (whatever
it is) should be put in a FAQ on the main PageStream web site.

Sorry, I thought it was an Epson.

My wife has a HP on her computer and it gives nothing but trouble, not
just with PageStream. Hope you find a better solution than I have found.

In my experience it is less to do with PageStream and more to do with
Windows. Every Windows computer I have had anything to do with came up
with something in the way of a problem. Most of the time I have solved
most problems with downloading the latest drive or driver patch. >From
that point, all you can do is check printer setting. Hope you find
someone else to help you.

PS I have tried to answer this a couple of times, but something in
Windoze doesn't like it. Sorry for the blank posts. This is my last
attempt at answering. Sad And it looks fine in my sent drawer!

Well, every computer has problems. My Amigas gave me *many* problems
and so have my PCs. My dad calls me to his house to try to make his
Mac work sometimes, too. Actually I am pretty impressed with XP, though.

As far as the printing problem, it may be the PC's fault, but I have
yet to find any other program that won't work with this new printer
driver. Even Open Office (which has been ported to many platforms
also) has no problem printing anything. In fact, PageStream4.1.6.36
prints fine with the same printer driver. I am guessing that it is
some sort of resource problem since I had seen Pagestream drop
pictures long ago with the old printer driver. This happened if I was
using a *lot* of RAM under Windows 98 (when scanning pictures and
editing them with Photoshop while running Pagestream). I had not had
that problem since upgrading to XP on my PC, but the problem looks
similar. The new problem is totally consistent, however, while the
old one would get worse over time as memory leaked away and was fixed
with a reboot.

Hope this data helps. Has anyone got an idea why 4.1.5.8 won't print
pictures for me any more?? Sad
