Hi!
I like PageStream. It is easy to use, and it has a lot of nice features. But - it still crashes now and then. Not only that, it might also destroy the file I am working on completely while it crashes.
I am using it, among other things, to write an annual report at work. This is a document of about 50 pages and 10 chapters. I prefer to use PageStream for this. (My other optinons are Word or Framemaker.) PageStream has a very nice way to make multichapter documents. This work means that I copy text from word-files sent to me by my collegues, and I paste this text into PageStream.
Yesterday I was almost finished with the report after a very productive day. Then I saved the document. While I was saving, PageStream crashed. When I tried to reopen the document it was corrupted. The same shit happened to me last year. Then I had a backupfile, so I didn't loose so much work. But this time I had forgotten to specify the directory for backup files, so I lost everything. Fortunately the file was on a server, so I got the backupfile from the day before. Fortunately I had also saved a PDF- file just before the crash, so I can copy back the text I had been working on yesterday. But it is a lot of work to get everything back.
To paste the text back I tried first to convert the PDF-file to RTF, but that didn't work. Adobe Acrobat reports that the PDF file is bad. So I have to copy directly from Acrobat. That means some extra work too, since special characters won't copy directly.
I wonder what is the reason for this crash, and why it also corrupts the file. I can send you the file I am working on, if it is any help for you.
I have PageStream Pro 5.0.1.37, and a quite new computer running Windows XP.
best wishes
