What's happened to the "New" dialog? It used to be that clicking New on
the splash screen Navigator or using "File | New" took you to a dialog
that allowed you to define the layout of a new document. In this
version, on my Windows machine, it immediately opens a new letter-sized
document with the default parameters for that size. There's no
opportunity to customize it.

Or do I have another glitch with my install?

just do a shift click on the New icon (and New in the menu).

It is one of the interface changes along with a single Import/Export.
You have to hold down the Shift key if you want the dialog, or edit the
master page size afterwards. No, the online documentation has not been
updated to reflect these changes since the online docs currently
represent the stable release. Once we get to stable, the docs will be
updated.
