Second release of PageStream5.1 for 32bit Windows. Fixes a number of reported problems with the first release. Released the very first 64bit version of PageStream for Windows and the first release of a version of MorphOS in a very long time. This MorphOS release includes substantial contributions by Frank Mariak and is a testament to Frank's and Christoph @ RMS Video's commitment to the MorphOS community. It simply would not have occurred without their efforts.

Well, welcome, 5.1.2. I spotted a 64-bit version and have that running on Windows 11 (Insider Preview 10.0.22622.590).
It starts much faster than any previous v5 versions.
And I notice it keeps a console window running; closing the console closes PGS.
Finally, the Type menu is blanked out and inaccessible, even with the F2 text tool selected.

Thanks

Hi Deron, I've downloaded the MorphOS, and both the Windows versions, though I know I'll be predominantly using the MorphOS version from now on.

I'm sure it feels good to have these releases 'out the door' and I am immensely grateful to you, and Frank Mariak & Christoph Poelzl, and his son, for all that has beeen done to get it all to where it is today. Keep up the momentum, and I hope it is worth it for everyone who dips their feet into D.T.P via PageStream, it's a joy to use. Very Happy

Further to my d/l of PGS512-64 bit and finding the Type menu greyed-out, I have similar with PG512-32 bit; both also have the console window open.
Lack of the Type menu makes these unusable, I'm afraid (unless I've forgotten something so basic; but PGS5058 works fine, if taking ages to open).

Hi Mike, I don't have a 64bit machine with me here to testright now so I have not answered your comment about that. However, I do know that the 32bit version of PageStream5.1.2 on 32bit Windows does have a working Type menu. Anyone else with Windows 11 that can verify this?

I did at least find the switch that lets me turn off the stupid console window. That should be fixed in the next release, but until then just ignore it.

I use w11 I tried the 2 versions 32 bit and 64 bit. The problem is the same for me in both, the menu that controls the text is not accessible when you are in text mode. If you are in "tooltype object" mode, the menu is accessible and changes, for example, to text color are possible and are taken into account when you switch back to "text tooltype" mode. Perhaps this remark can help Deron to correct. Otherwise for me this new version is great, the functionalities which allow to define the scripts, to edit them, to define the shortcuts work perfectly. The speed in 64 bits is impressive. For my personal use, the console which opens with the program is not at all annoying, on the contrary, when an error appears in the course of a script, it displays the detail of the error, it's great for debugging! you can choose whether or not you want this console window to appear.

A little thing that hasn't changed in these new versions (but that doesn't bother much...):
I use the color palette a lot to change the characteristics of an object, line or fill colors, this palette does not work for text, it's a shame, you always have to use "Ctrl+l" to get the edit menu.

Je continue à utiliser et tester.
Merci encore Deron pour ces nouvelles versions et pardon pour l'anglais, je suis toujours aussi ennuyé pour être compris en anglais et je passe par la traduction automatique
I continue to use and test.
Thanks again Deron for these new versions and sorry for the English, I'm still so bored to be understood in English and I go through machine translation

Clarification: in 64 bits, the scripts menu is not accessible, like the type menu.

Just downloaded and installed! I used PageStream on Linux for years, only trouble was getting it started in Mint (something to do with file locations... don't recall the fix now!) and printing never quite worked from within PageStream (I needed to save files in PDF anyway, so printed from PDF). Over the last 2-3 years I needed to switch to Windows and have been using it with great success! I recently had a loading issue after a Windows upgrade, but Deron fixed that within a couple weeks! I haven't made anything with the newest version yet but I did load an old file just to check it out. Works as advertised! I had to use a word processor (Libre Office Writer) to make my last newsletter due to the loading issue. Deron had it fixed right before I had to print and send the newsletter, but I had no idea he'd get it fixed so soon or I'd have waited! Using another program was a struggle, especially a program not made specifically for page layout. I found PageStream back in 2016 after Adobe PageMaker 6 was finally getting too old to work with newer computers. Worst thing for Adobe was killing PageMaker for their "InDesign" -- which can be used for page layout, but is overly complicated for it. PageStream is very similar to the old PageMaker, the equal to it at the least! So glad I found it and Deron is still supporting it. I recommend it to anyone looking for page layout software!!

The MorphOS version of PageStream seems to be well received, but there is an option in MUI that all MorphOS users should avoid (until it gets resolved), that is DO NOT enable the MUI > Menus > Enable Embedded Menu Bar as this will cause a FREEZE when using the PageStream Menu > Layout > Create Text Frames, as once you click OK for your chosen options in that dialogue requester your whole system will FREEZE, and whatever you have done, but not saved immediately prior to that moment/action will be lost in the system FREEZE. This information has been added to the Morph.zone website thread for this new version of PageStream.https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?forum=9&topic_id=13398&post_id=153853&viewmode=flat&sortorder=0&showonepost=1

You now know what to avoid Laughing out loud

I'm using the 5.1.2 version on windows 10. With the latest verion, I cannot print. Every time i click on the print icon in the tool bar, it brings up the print setup window - never the print screen. The problem developed with the 5.1.2 release only.
