I just wondered, and I know it's a long time since version 3 of PageStream was released, somewhere about 1994 IIRC, but did the PageStream Script (Macro) - Create Index - ever get completed (v3.x)?

As I know in v3.0i and in the manual (544 page edition) there were instructions on how to implement the Create Index codes into a document, but the Macro (Script) that was supposed to control it wasn't complete with that release.

However, there was an assurance in the Script (Macro) itself that a working Script would be included with an update. I just don't seem to remember there being an update that included that Create Index.rexx (or the Remove Index Entry.rexx) Script (Macro) as a working Script - or was there?

Also, which is a reason for asking, will such scripts work with v5.1.2 for MorphOS?

Well, yes and no. The scripts are not included with PageStream, but that is because Index generation was built into PageStream itself. https://pagestream.org/?action=Documents&id=759

Aha! - So, there it is. I hadn't needed it until now, but I see it in the Edit>Generate>Create Index option in PageStream 4, but was it implemented as a menu option in a later version of PageStream v3x - after v3.0i ... as it still is in later 4 & 5 releases?

Was the Macro (ARexx) option abandoned in favour of the built-in menu option?

I must have missed this feature as I often referred to the manual (printed v3 - 544 page option ideally) but the Index Macro/Script was never completed for v3 as far as you have indicated, and Index creation/deletion is not mentioned at all in the later (thinner 220 page) PageStream 3 manual, with only textual instructions for creating an index in the "now lost" (for some) PageStream v4 (incomplete/unindexed PDF) documentation, but there is no mention of deleting an index in the v4 PDF, though maybe the website information/help/documentation pages had this much more comprehensive information/help on here all along?

Nope, decided it was better to rewrite it for fun and waste time with the hope it would turn out worse ;-) Not sure how to answer this one. Sarcasm aside, clearly yes.

No, I don't believe I said that. It was replaced, but my recollection is it was complete at that time. The issue was it was easier to rewrite it once and integrate it into the program than to rewrite it for Mac using AppleScript and Windows/Linux in Python. I've considered in the past taking something like Lua or Basic and building in a scripting language that would allow scripts to be written that would work across the PageStream universe but the call for that is pretty low.

@ Deron - thanks for the update on Index Creation/Deletion. As I mentioned, I hadn't needed the Index feature until now, so it hadn't been that relevant to me ... until now, but not having a complete v4 PDF or any printed documentation for v4 made reading up on each section an online process rather than reading a book at home, which is far easier, well it still is for me.
