I was using the Windows Pro version of PageStream v5.1.2 to see what it works like (generally in comparison to the MorphOS version that I prefer to use) but in any case I started PageStream to find a satellite window, sort of a "command prompt" window open with just the cursor flashing and then the main GUI and palette windows opened in front of it as expected.

Why does that occur? Confused

I then imported/opened a PDF that I had created in the MorphOS version and when the imported PDF opened it had changed some objects into a combined object, and the colours that the objects had been imbued with had changed, and some had been lost, also some of the text that had shadows added had become individual objects, in that the Shadows, and the texts' fill and line weight had become separate items, and some text had shifted down the page, as though a Line Feed had been added, which seemed slightly weird.

I started to change one of the objects back to how it had been filled and the outline had been coloured, but when I changed the objects fill and clicked on Okay the main GUI disappeared off the screen along with all the other windows, including the seemingly dormant "command prompt" style window.

When I went to the taskbar to the PageStream icon, it offered me 2 open but minimised choices to re-open, one the "command prompt" window, the other the main PageStream GUI window, so I clicked on the main GUI, and it re-appeared on screen. I then edited the line colour of the object and when I clicked Okay it once more caused the main GUI to disappear, as before, off screen and had actually been minimised, yet again, into the taskbar PageStream active icon, which I had to select to get the main GUI back on screen.

This is surely not how the program is intended to work, so has this been reported already, or is it a known issue that is being worked on to be fixed? Confused

You managed to miss the prior discussions here on this. It is a debug window that is harmless (unless you try and close it), and will be gone in the next release.

PDF is a terrible document exchange method. Even if importing was perfect, retaining structure is impossible. PDF does not include anything like margins, line spacing etc. Just commands to put letters at certain locations (not 100% accurate, but should help imagine why it is a terrible way to exchange documents).

Not previously reported, and not reproducible here. Does this happen if you open a new document and try and change the fill of a simple box?

Neil Pearson wrote: I realise converting a PDF from that format, back to a PageStream document is going to be frought with issues, but I just wanted to see what happened, especially as it was from the MorphOS version to the Windows version of PageStream that both use the same PDF engine, but thought it worthy of comment here anyway. Neil Pearson wrote: I will go back to the file, when I get my Windows system back running (as I don't use it that often) and get back to you with the result of that change of fill.

P.S. It would be good to have an option to preview and edit a post, so that you can change/amend/edit/update something that you enter incorrectly - before you post it or is worthy of an update, rather than actually creating a totally new post. Is this a feature you would consider adding? Wink
