The masterpage is only for placing those objects that will not change from page to page, such as the page number function, which appears to change from page to page, but which is handled by PageStream itself, meaning that *you* are not changing it. It is also for things like the text you find at the top of the pages in a book, where they put the name of the book or chapter at the top of every page. If you are planning on putting in several pages of text, then you put those text boxes on the actual pages, not the masterpage.
