Hi Deron,

Thanks for plugging away at this!

Unfortunately, no joy this time. The symptoms are again the same as
previously.

With my Pagestream4.prefs file in place (my 68K prefs file less everything
except first few lines of reg. info), booting into my "virgin" (ie. as
installed) OS4 Update4 partition, PgS4 gets past the splash window and
the vert. toolbox appears on the LHS, but nothing further. At this point
the GR is spitting out info on the serial in a loop, yet no GR GUI
appears as it normally would.

I am running PgS on a 512MB XE with the USB and DMA mods on the mobo.
Attached again are the SnoopDOS and GR logs.

Despite everything else, PgS should at least start properly on a virgin
Update4 install :^(.

I don't know if this is contributing towards the problem any, but isn't
the minimum stacksize for OS4 now 32768 bytes when running commands?
AIUI, dos.library should trap these and change it to the minimum value
anyway, but you never know.

Another thing, those logs are for when I booted without Petunia, to take
it out of the equation, but in my case it doesn't seem to make any
difference whether Petunia is running or not.

Deron,

I just tried 5.0.3.2 OS4, and I also get the same results I've had
with the last few beta releases: vertical toolbar opens, along with
miniature project window, and immediate GR with mouse lock up and DSI
exception if I click "more" in the GR, requiring a hard reboot from
the case button.

I'm assuming this would probably work for me again if I booted from
the update 4 CD, but I haven't dug it out again. But booting from my
modified Workbench and from my standard OS4 installation on another
partition, I still get these results.

Do you want any SnoopDOS output from mine?

Paul

Your log shows that is failed trying to load the MUI class TextEditor. I
thought I had made that conditional, as I don't remember it being a
standard mui class. You say you have a pure update4 install. Does it have
that class? Just a shot...

That would be great, plus any output from grim reaper. But please send it
direct to me at support@pagestream.org.

Here are some things to try:

Run PageStream from a shell.
Try a larger stack size.
Check for mui TextEditor class.

I hardly ever run from WB. I'll play with that some, and why don't you try
running from a shell and see if that makes any difference.

I think that the MUI that comes with OS4 is not registered and thus
only has a few main classes. That could be part of the problem.

You're right about the OS4 install not having MUI TextEditor. But I
have version 15.17 of TextEditor.mcc and version 15.12 of
TextEditor.mcp on my normal boot partitiion. Both are OS4/PPC native
versions. Does Zerohero have newer ones at his site now?

Is there a list of the MUI classes and versions required by PGS 5?

Wrong classes are often a source of trouble.

That is an excellent site for MUI programs. Wish there were a master
list of all MUI programs and the current version. Seems to be critical
for many programs. Do wish that Reaction would take over as that
should simplify the OS.

TextEditor.mcc is a third-party class and is not a part of OS4 MUI at all.
It is used by YAM and SimpleMail, amongst others.

My usual boot partition is my OS4 beta partition, which has many other
additions including TextEditor.mcc. The symptoms are similar with this
partition too, albeit the GR GUI does appear.

Besides the standard mui includes, that is the only extra class.
